In spring 2002, the musical paths of singer Pauliina May and composer Izak Boom crossed. They recognized in each other a shared passion for new musical challenges and embarked on a project that eventually led to the formation of Aina.
Izak started out composing music and arrangements to traditional Finnish poetry which Pauliina selected from the epic Kalevala and the medieval Kanteletar collections. Another initial source of inspiration was the melodious work of the Finnish poet Eino Leino (1878-1926). The duo changed it's formation into a quartet with new forces; Mikko Karjalainen on double-bass and Sybren van Doesum on trumpet.
As Aina, the group continued its explorations into a timeless, natural and lively music where the human factor takes centre stage.
