NEW LIFE HOME TRUST was launched in 1994 by British couple Clive and Mary Beckenham in Nairobi, Kenya.Clive and Mary had seen the plight of babies, often HIV-positive, abandoned amid the rubbish and sewers in the streets and knew they had to help these children. Now, 12 years after they started with one run-down house in Nairobi, New Life Home Trust has 6 homes and centres: 2 in Nairobi, 1 in Western Kenya, 2 on the Indian Ocean coast and 1 on the island of Lamu (near Somalia). Apart from shelter, the Trust provides free education, health care and advice. To date the Trust has taken in nearly 800 babies. Around 75% have subsequently been settled with new foster parents or adopted. A further 5% have been reunited with their own families. It is estimated that there are over 300,000 HIV-positive infants in Kenya. They are the most vulnerable – dumped on the streets to die.Yet the Trust has discovered that good nourishment and intensive care can work miracles.Over 90% of HIV-positive infants have after care been re-tested and found to be HIV-negative.A home was recently opened in Mombasa. It needs a new roof, more rooms and equipment – to care for more infants. We are also in desperate need of large second hand generatorsThese babies need constant care in a hygienic environment. The electricity supply is unreliable and a generator (or two) would ensure sufficient supplies of light and power. We reckon it will cost £ 30,000 to cover these expenses alone. The Rotary Club of Westgate & Birchington supports several charities. But this project needs practical support as well as money. We intend to send a group of around 30 people out to Kenya around May 2007 and either do the work ourselves or make sure it gets done properly.Take a look at the pictures. In 2007 babies shouldn’t die in gutters - anywhere in the world. Please: Help us give these babies shelter and a chance for a life.Cheques (made payable to: Rotary Club of W & B, Africa) can be sent to: Steve Puttock, 3 The Parkway, Canterbury Road, Birchington CT7 9XGOr for more details of how you can help, please contact: Steve Puttock Tel: 01843 843955 Roger Binks Tel: 01843 869484 Keith Coleman-Cooke Tel: 01843 229407THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!

PROGRESS SO FAR* We have many volunteers who wish to be part of the project and are actively raising funds at the present time.* We have raised over £3.000 so far with many other events already organised but we need another £27.000 difficult but not impossible* We have a sponsor for all of the paint that will be required for the project.* We have the offer of free air freight to Mombasa and it would be fantastic if we could fill all available space in the aircraft.* We have an offer of anti-bacterial gel for all volunteers* The fundraising efforts so far have included a magnificent “Burns Night†which one of our members organised and raised more than £400.* Other events planned are a silver band concert, a real ale festival and a wine tasting evening.* We hope that this site will gain your support and produce additional funds
