Living my dream...

About Me

Welcome!
Here's my latest interview, (Oct '08) done with the wonderful Chase Von for the Student Operated Press: http://thesop.org/index.php?article=13857
Or look on www.theSOP.org under the Entertainment section.
I am now living in Holland, not far from Amsterdam. I moved here in September, '07, and have been traveling around Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands as much as the weather and my health permits.
I became disabled following a motorcycle accident, and it's been a long road back to see where I could fit in to society, what work I could do, and whether or not people would accept me as I am. Some do, some don't. There are lots of disabled and non-disabled people with industry dreams and aspirations. I want to help others, either by inspiring, educating, informing, employing or at least paving the way for them to get at least as far as I have, with a lot less struggle.
I have a brain injury and I'm visually impaired, among other conditions - but I haven't let that stop me. I'm a screenwriter, and do script coverage. I've had half my face rebuilt following the motorcycle accident, and still model. Why not?
I can't see well enough to drive myself, but am an avid motocyclist as a passenger. During bike season you'll probably find me at a bike bash (party/event) somewhere around here.
I still have my production company in Los Angeles, and am looking to expand that over to this side of the world. Visit: Secret Visions Pictures - www.SecretVisions.com - for more information, scripts available, etc. or email me: [email protected]
I think people of all races, sizes, ages and abilities should be able to work in film and television - both in front of the camera as well as behind it. There are quite a few disabled actors, directors, screenwriters and producers I know who are also working in the industry. It's a struggle even when you're not disabled.
I chose to blog about myself and my experiences here on MySpace in order to try and reach out to others - I can empathise best with people who also struggle against impossible odds, but keep trying. Believe me, I do have an idea of what that is like. It really is the journey, and not the destination.
I've enjoyed a fantastic life, and some crappy circumstances. And life is always surprising me with something new, something wonderous. So much yet to learn and experience!
Interesting to know:
In Academy Award history, only three female filmmakers have been nominated for best director award (Italian director Lina Wertmuller in 1977, New Zealand director Jane Campion in 1994, and American director Sofia Coppola in 2004), but none have won...
From a study published in 2006 - In 2005, women comprised 17% of all directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors working on the top 250 (US) domestic grossing films. This is the same percentage of women employed in these roles in 1998, nearly a decade beforehand.
Only 7% of the top 250 films of 2005 had female directors, and 11% of the writers of the top 250 films of 2005 were female.
Shouldn't there be more?

My Interests

Just trying to move towards the goals, not worry too much about the future, and enjoy life along the way.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet everyone in the entertainment industry who is interested in networking and working together.

For Europe and the Netherlands in particular - I'm looking for (model) photographers, talent, modeling and literary agents, publicists, managers, producers, and other people in the industry here.

I directed my first film in '05, and started out in the industry as a commercial print model and actor in the 1990s. I began screenwriting and directing as a natural offshoot of that. I co-produced a live sketch comedy competition, and taped it as a pilot. It had it's second year in '07, with co-founder Paul Lawrence. I have three feature film scripts and several short scripts, all of which have placed in or won various screenwriting contests. The three features are packaged and ready to go - all with low-budgets, and two have a guarantee of distribution. So, I just need a producer, studio or literary agent for that!

Music:

I LOVE movie scores.

Movies:

Of course my favorite movie is one I directed: SmashingStereotypes.com

The film is available individually on Amazon.com, and in the compilation disk Short Stack Vol. 5 on Netflix.

Television:

We taped the 2006 Sketch Comedy Championship - www.SketchComedyCompetition.com - for a television pilot. I didn't direct this one, I was the producer - but the director was fantastic - he worked on the Dave Chappelle show, HBO, VH1, MTV - and with us!

Books:

Growing up without television, I read a lot. I love sci-fi/fantasy, romance, self-help/educational, magazines, the newspaper, scripts, whatever. I still read as much as I can, as often as I can. Although being visually impaired makes it difficult to read at length, sometimes it's worth it just to escape for a while.

Heroes:

I think God is pretty cool. He's my hero.
