Penny Marshall, originally named, Carole Penny Marscharelli, is a TV veteran from a showbiz family. Her first roles on television were offered to her by her brother, Garry. She is most known for her acclaimed role as Laverne DeFazio, from Laverne and Shirley. After the show her acting career never quite took off. She began directing a few sitcom episodes in the late 70's. Her biggest breakthrough was being called in as a replacement director for the Whoopi Goldberg hit, "Jumpin Jack Flash". After this she had several box-office hits, including, Tom Hanks, "Big", "A League of Their Own" and "A Preacher's Wife". Till this day, Penny Marshall is one of the most famous woman film directors working currently. You'll often see Penny at pretty much every home court Lakers game.
