About Me
Born in Terracina in 1967, Rosario Giuliani began studying the alto sax
as a child. In 1982 he began attending the "L. REFICE" Conservatory of
Music in Frosinone (Italy), where he graduated in 1987 with the highest
honors. In 1990 he joined the "European Jazz Orchestra" for talented
youth, as ensemble organized by Italy's national broadcasting system
"RAI". This group performed at Rome's renowned "Auditorium del Foro
Italico" under direction of James NEWTON. Giuliani also partook in many
recording session for the film soundtracks of internationally acclaimed
directors: Ennio MORRICONE, Luis BACALOV, Armando TROVAIOLI, Gianni
FERRIO, Manuel DE SICA, Nicola PIOVANI, and Ritz ORTOLANI. In April
1996, he won the "Massimo URBANI", a national first prize for the best
alto sax player at a competition in Urbisaglia (Macerata-Italy). On
September 27 and 28, at the "Europe Jazz Contest 97" held in Brussels,
he was awarded first prize as a best soloist. He is the winner of the
Top Jazz 2000, annual Critics Poll by "Musica Jazz", as best young
musician. He has also collaborated with some of today's most
distinguished jazz musicians, such as: Bob MINTZER, Cedar WALTON, Enrico RAVA, Franco D'ANDREA, Enrico PIERANUNZI, Cameron BROWN, Philip CATHERINE, Giovanni TOMMASO, Joe LOCKE, Phil WOODS, Biréli LAGRENE, Marc JOHNSON, Joy BARON, Martial SOLAL, Richard GALLIANO and Silvan LUC.
In 2005 He has also collaborated with Charlie HADEN and Gonzalo RUBALCABA
in the "Land of the Sun" project. In addiction, he has participated in various
jazz festivals throughout in the world, such as Jazz & Image, Jazz a
Liegi, Gexto Jazz Festival (Spain) , Zagabria Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz,
Bergamo Jazz, JVC Jazz Festival (Paris), Town Hall 2001 (New York), Nancy
Jazz Pulsation (France), North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland),
London Jazz Festival (England), California, Mexico , Honk Kong,
Marciac Jazz Festival (France), Basel Jazz Festival, Ankara Jazz Festival, Smoke Jazz Club
(New York), Jazz a Vienne (France), China. He has signed in 2000 a contract
with the famous French label "Dreyfus Jazz" and he has recorded 4
albums: "Luggage" (2001), "Mr. Dodo" (2002), "More than ever" (2004) and
"Anything Else" (2007).
