ROBERTO GATTO Born in Rome on October 1958, his professional debut was in 1975 with the Trio di Roma (Danilo Rea piano, Enzo Pietropaoli bass). He has been playing all over the world with his own groups as well as together with international artist.All of the groups in his name are charaterized, in addition to first class technique and a refined research of timbre, by a great "warmth", typical of the mediterranean culture. This surely makes Roberto Gatto one of the most interesting and original drummer and composer in Europe and the world. Roberto Gatto received numerous awards; among them the most important are the following: in1985/1987, with the group Lingomania, he was the number one in the "Top Jazz" poll of the magazine Musica Jazz; in 1988,1989,1990 he was the number one drummer in the "Guitar Club" poll; in 1992 he was voted as best italian drummer by the magazine Percussioni.He as done two instructional videos: Batteria! (1993) and Batteria! vol.2 (1994). In 1995 and 1996 he was the artistic director of Jazz in progress of Teatro Dell'Angelo. E forse non si tratta nemmeno solo di musica.Roberto Gatto è, infatti un esploratore,un"ragazzo"di quarantasette anni che ha pensato di trasformare il suo strumento in una macchina in grado di muoversi nel tempo e nello spazio.No,non stiamo esagerando,perche Roberto,partendo dalla batteria,dal ritmo,dal battito,è andato altrove,è riuscito a superare le strette gabbie dei generi e degli stili,e ha messo a disposizione il suo talento per aiutare quello degli altri, ha scritto, raccontato, sperimentato, visto, vissuto la musica in prima persona. E'partito dal jazz ma ha scoperto tutta la musica,quella più raffinata e intransigente, quella più leggera e cantabile, ma non ha avuto il timore di mescolare le sue bacchette e la sua testa pensante a quella di molti musicisti e molto diversi tra loro. Ma non basta, perchè non sono i compagni di viaggio ad aver fatto grande Roberto Gatto, ma il suo modo di essere musicista. Non è una star, non ha atteggiamenti da primadonna, ma sa essere allo stesso tempo sideman e bandleader, sa insegnare e ascoltare, non si confonde con quelli che trasformano la musica in circo,ma allo stesso tempo sa divertire e divertirsi con grande entusiasmo. Celebrare la sua arte e il suo ingegno, raccontare, attraverso la musica la sua storia, è una straordinaria occasione e non va perduta. Perchè, ed è questo il bello, Roberto Gatto merita una sola definizione, quella che calza a pennello su tutta la sua storia: artista.
