About Me

Well, I have composed some of the most popular film scores of all time. I was born on February 8, 1932 and I attended the University of California at Los Angeles and served in the United States Air Force before studying piano at New York's famous Juilliard School. I spent several years as a jazz musician and then to California, where I worked my way up from studio pianist to film score composer. Among my most famous early compositions were the themes for NBC's Today Show and the popular series Lost In Space. I received my first Oscar nomination in 1968 for my work on the cult classic "Valley Of The Dolls". Four years later, I was awarded the Oscars for Best Music, Scoring Adaptation and Original Song Score for "Fiddler On The Roof". Over the course of my long and celebrated career, I have been nominated for over 35 Oscars and have won five. I have written some of the most recognizable film scores of the last 40 years, including "Jaws", "The Poseidon Adventure", "Jurassic Park", the "Indiana Jones" trilogy, "Schindler's List", "Superman", and, of course, the "Star Wars" movies. In addition to my film scoring work, I was conductor of the Boston Pops from 1980 to 1993 and I still conduct concerts with various orchestras around the world. I am currently hard at work on the scores of the new "Harry Potter" movies.

My Interests

My interests mainly revolve around music. I also love ALL of the "Star Wars" films more than any of the others I have written music for.

Television:

I don't really watch much television.

Books:

I feel too old when I start to read.... I like to stay youthful!!

Heroes:

George Lucas.
