Dreammotive

New song is here!

About Me

Dreammotive was formed by three Percussion Performance majors at the University of Georgia in 2003. The concept is to combine the natural beauty of the marimba with the emotional connection of a rock setting, with the addition of the complexity and depth of classical composition.

Influences: The music of Dreammotive is created mostly through compositional processes and therefore is not subjected to outside influences at the same degree as other performance ensembles. Rather than imitating or developing variations on preexisting works (except for covers), the music is formed with specific compositional goals in mind. However, no human is purely creative, and can not create a sound which is unlike any previously produced while simultaneously producing a relevant work of art. That being said, the most likely influences upon the music of Dreammotive include: Microwave ovens, electric fans, air conditioners, lawn mowers, airplanes, wind, rain, creeks, thunder. There are many direct quotes from vintage video game music as well, but these are mostly tributes rather than influences. But to accurately describe the sound it must be said that Dreammotive truly sounds like no other music that has been written, yet it easily fits into the genre of rock.
Sounds Like: The goal of Dreammotive is pure aestheticism- to create the most beautiful sound possible within our power. The sound is truly unique due to the fact that the songs are driven by a lead electric marimba. The best way to describe it is compositional rock with mellow vocals and occasional rhythmic features which are commonly referred to as "breakdowns".

One of the tools I use to make the sound of Dreammotive unique is the use of Quintal, Secundal, and Septal harmony. Most of the music we hear is written entirely under the tertian system, which spaces...
