Giovanni Mazzarino was born on May 26 th 1965 in Messina. He began playing the piano at the very early age of 5. He was self-educated and showed exceptional musical talent. From 1973 to 1975, he studied classical piano which he had previously forsaken because of his great attraction to listening and studying the great American orchestras of Swing. In 1988 he started his professional career with one of the most important Italian musicians: Enzo Randisi. Between 1990 and 1991, he became the pianist of the "Orchestra Jazz Siciliana" and he performed in two tours for the institute promoting Jazz Music of the Massimo Theater in Palermo. In 1991, he recorded his first CD, with the extraordinary trumpet player Flavio Boltro :"SILENCE PLEASE" for the Splash Records, receiving great reviews by critics especially for his arrangements. In 1994, he recorded another CD :"THINKING MILES" for Ram Records featuring the drummer Ettore Fioravanti. In 1995, he started collaboration with Joan Cartwright, touring Europe. They recorded a CD "FEELIN' GOOD" (Modern Times) for which he did the arrangements and thus becoming also the musical director of the band. From the 1997 to 2000, he taught in the Conservatory of Music: Piano Jazz and Jazz Theory in Caltanissetta(Sicily). October 1997, a new CD was released by the Giovanni Mazzarino Trio "I REMEMBER MILES" for the Anaglyphos Record with Nello Toscano (bass) and Paolo Mappa (drums). May 1998: International Tour with RANDY BRECKER; CD "LIVE AT BRASS Jazz CLUB" with Randy Brecker & Giovanni Mazzarino Trio for Brass Group Record. November 1998: Italian tours with his "EAST QUARTET" featuring EDDIE HENDERSON, Mike McGuirk and Eliot Zigmund. In 1999 he began collaboration with one of the greatest jazz singers in the world: MARK MURPHY. March 1999: release of record by the Giovanni Mazzarino Quartet "PLAYS BALLADS" (Philology Records). January 2000: release of "BEAUTIFUL CHILD" (Philology) recorded live by the Giovanni Mazzarino Quartet. March and August 2000: tour in Italy with the great American trumpet player TOM HARRELL. In 2001 he organized a new trio with two great American musicians: STEVE SWALLOW and ADAM NUSSBAUM, starting a long international tour. In 2002, Mazzarino invited trumpet player, Fabrizio Bosso to be a part of his band; they recorded as the Giovanni Mazzarino Quintet "EVENING In BLUE" (Splash Record); and later the Giovanni Mazzarino Jazz in Trio feat. Steve Swallow and Adam Nussbaum released "NOSTALGIA" (Splash Records). In 2003, Mazzarino won the TOP JAZZ (award proclaimed by the specialized magazine Music Jazz - Rusconi) as The Best New Italian Talent 2003. Another record by the Giovanni Mazzarino Quintet is "THE CYCLONE" (Splash Records). In 2004: Giovanni Mazzarino Quintet "LIVE ALLO SPASIMO - Palermo" Philology. In 2005 he started to perform with BOB MINTZER . In 2006 he started to perform as a duo with PAOLO FRESU.
