About Me

Fieldtrip is a Montreal based jazz trio with an extensive and diverse repertoire comprised primarily of original compositions and reinterpretations of music from a variety of genres including jazz, folk, hip-hop, rock and popular music. All of their music serves as a vehicle for spontaneous self expression and interaction through the energetic and trusting relationship they have fostered since their formation in September, 2005.In 2005, Fieldtrip was awarded a professional development grant by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts to record an album of their original works. In September 2006, Fieldtrip was selected and awarded scholarships to attend the prestigious Career Development Residency Program at the Banff Centre for the Arts from January through March 2007. There they completed their debut album comprised of a diverse array of compositions by double bassist Patrick Reid written in response to his experiences volunteering and traveling in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia in the winter of 2006.Following their residency they presented this exciting debut to packed houses across Canada on their first national tour in April of 2007. They extended this tour nationwide in October of 2007 finishing in the Atlantic provinces and were generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. The album has gone on to receive rave reviews from many of the nation’s top jazz critics, spent several weeks at the top of the Canadian college radio jazz charts and was nominated for two Prince Edward Island Music Awards. Fieldtrip have most recently completed a second winter residency at the Banff Centre. They have completed an array of new and exciting works and will be debuting them on their second upcoming Canadian tour, sponsored in part by the Canada Council for the Arts, in support of their new “Flash EP".All in their mid-twenties, Fieldtrip has already asserted themselves as one of the most promising, unique and exciting ensembles on the Canadian jazz scene. Having entertained audiences across the country with over eighty performances, they have also had opportunities to collaborate with many of Canada’s jazz greats including Mike Allen, Chet Doxas, Jim Head, Kelly Jefferson and Andy Milne as well as international artists such as French pianist Benoit Delbecq and Australia’s TinAlley String Quartet.Phiks painting FIELDTRIP
