About Me

Cynthia Anne Peyson is an eclectic, multi talented singer/songwriter with touches of jazz, classical, country and folk in her music. Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, she studied classical flute and piano and jazz voice. She attended the University of Regina, where she received a Bachelor of Music Education in 2002. Her major instrument was flute, and she studied with Sandra Hoffman, then principal flute in the Regina Symphony Orchestra. While in Regina, she played in the University of Regina Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Concert Choir. Off campus, she played flute and sang with local Afro-Cuban drum ensemble, Skin and Bone, with whom she had the opportunity to play at the Gravelbourg Summer Solstice Festival, the Flatlands Festival and the Regina Folk Festival. She also played regularly around Regina in acoustic duo MokaJava. She went on to further studies at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton. Her influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Aimee Mann, Sarah Slean, Red House Painters, The Soundtrack of Our Lives and Ben Harper. She currently resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba (all except her heart, which still fervently beats in Saskatchewan!). In Winnipeg, she keeps busy fronting her own project, the Cynna Love Band, and a jazz duo with pianist Eric Hemmerling, at various venues.
