Bettina Grassmann was carried kicking and screaming to her first violin lesson at age five. She has not stopped kicking and screaming, (on-stage or off) and now she also plays a wide variety of music. She played with the Saskatoon Symphony for six years, while also rebelling from her classical background by playing in Blues bars even before she was old enough to be there. Her musical endeavors have been diverse and at times strange. With her experimental ensemble, Duct, she performed with singing vagina sculptures at AKA Gallery in Saskatoon, at an exceedingly loud "unplugged" Rod Stewart concert at SaskPlace, Saskatoon, and with Jessica Vigneault at the Juste Pour Rire Festival. Bettina composed and performed music for Theatre, including the kids play Hans my Hedgehog performed at Centaur Theatre in Montreal (for which she acted the role of a male hedgehog), Shakespeares The Tempest, performed outdoors on Mont-Royal, Montreal and her musical Stitches. She performs at various cafés in Montreal, including Café des Artistes and Fokus Gallery combining story-telling (often of the raunchy, floozy sort) with original songs performed on voice, violin, guitar and clogging with her feet.
After a brief experiment with "Bettina Taquam" as a show name, I've decided to switch back to the name on my birth certificate, as it is easier to remember.
