About Me

Derek is an up and coming guitar player originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mostly playing in small jazz groups, he gained much of his experience from listening and playing with the top players in Winnipeg at that time, including Steve Kirby, Alvin Atkinson, and Ron Paley, among others. He is currently studying at Humber College in Toronto, Ontario and playing with various groups around Toronto. Although he has a strong focus on jazz, Derek has had experience playing other styles and has open mind towards music. Electric guitar the instrument of choice, but he also enjoys the opportunity to play nylon-string acoustic guitar. Over the summer of 2007, Derek had the chance to perform solo guitar at Deer Lodge hospital on a daily basis. This rewarding experience sparked his interest in solo guitar. You can now hear Derek perform solo guitar, or with any one of the groups he is playing in.
