Scott Metcalfe

About Me

Scott Metcalfe is a young jazz pianist rising in the Toronto scene. Originally from Winnipeg, MB, he started studying classical music on the piano at the age of 6, and starting studying jazz and percussion at the age of 12. After high school, he moved to Toronto to study jazz piano at Humber College. He is currently graduated with honours and resides in Toronto, teaching piano as a part time job and gigging professionally.
Scott's experience is already very plentiful, despite his young age of 23. For the last 5 summers he has played with Carnival Cruise Lines in one of their show bands and part of a jazz trio. (the music being played was recorded from the last cruise) He has and is gigging in a very wide spectrum of playing situations; weddings, shows, receptions, bar mitzvahs, parties, studio work, recording sessions, etc. He is also able to perform in almost any style: all and every type of jazz, solo cocktail piano, RnB, motown, classical accompaniment, musical theatre, etc. He is currently an active member in a flamenco jazz band, The Cafe Ole (thecafeole.ca) and a member of the Nick Morgan ensemble (myspace.com/nickmorganmusic), and is currently putting together a project under his own name (music to listen to coming soon!)

Scott's influences are so many and so varied that it would be impossible to list them all, but his attention and discipline is always present to whatever scenerio he happens to be in. Improvisation is a preference in his music, as compared to written music, but in either case, written or improvised, he always brings an attentive ear and a sensitivity to whatever the music may throw at him.
