Soundtrack for the Inner Alien

About Me

SOUNDTRACK FOR THE INNER ALIENA signature blend of instrumental music -- ambient, orchestral, rock, heavy metal, New Age, electronica -- that explores worlds of classic horror, darkness, beauty, and sadness."Every man hath a good and a bad angel attending on him, all his life long."
- Robert Burton, Anatomy of Melancholy* * * * *Advance praise for Daemonyx"Daemonyx's compositions conjure up visions of eerie strangeness and awesomely alien worlds that nothing can evoke better than music."
- Ramsey Campbell , award-winning author of Alone with the Horrors and The House on Nazareth Hill; "Britain's most respected living horror writer" (Oxford Companion to English Literature)- - - - -"There are many haunting and beautiful compositions that complement or completely make horror films -- you know the ones -- as well as appeal to listeners who are sensitive to the mystery and dread of life. In its debut album Curse of the Daimon, Daemonyx has offered us 14 works of such quality."
- Thomas Ligotti , award-winning author of The Nightmare Factory and My Work Is Not Yet Done- - - - -"Like a soundtrack to a fever dream, the music of Daemonyx plumbs an ever-changing world of mystery, mood, and melodic apparitions. Listen with the lights out and your imagination on."
- Brian Hodge , award-winning author of World of Hurt and Hellboy: On Earth As It Is In Hell; musician; raconteur- - - - -"Intricate, haunting and complex pieces of music, richly creative and inspiring."
- Tim Lebbon , award-winning author of Desolation and White and Other Tales of Ruin- - - - -"The overall ambience reminds me a little of the electronica of Klaus Schulze. There's a similar powerful evocation of vast and terrifying soundscapes."
- Mark Samuels , finalist for the British Fantasy Award, author of The Face of Twilight and The White Hands and Other Weird Tales* * * * *Daemonyx is the musical project of horror writer Matt Cardin , who is best known as the author of the well-received fiction collection Divinations of the Deep , as well as for his many critical writings about modern horror icon Thomas Ligotti . For a detailed explanation of the philosophical, psychological, spiritual, and artistic motivations that have gone into the formation of Daemonyx, see the essay "Daemonyx: What's in a name?" , which appears at Matt's blog, The Teeming Brain .
Matt has played piano and keyboards for 27 years. As a child he studied classical piano for nine years. At age 16 he began composing and recording original electronic music with an analog synthesizer, a drum machine, and a four-track recorder. These nineteen years later his musical passion has evolved into Daemonyx, which is a sonic embodiment of his lifelong involvement in horror fiction and film, dark spiritual speculations, and overwhelming emotions of numinous melancholy. The project's first album will be titled Curse of the Daimon and will be released in late 2006 or early 2007.
Daemonyx's music is produced on the latest generation of digital musical gear. It represents a hybrid of styles and genres -- dark ambient, heavy metal, orchestral, electronica, New Age -- that flows from and speaks to the Inner Alien, the Angel and Demon inside each of us.
