MPeace3 (aka MFP)

MPeace3. Or MFP. Or sometimes Scales. Or...

About Me

MPeace3 (aka MFP) is a fictional band. Or, more precisely, MPeace3 is not really any kind of a band at all. It is the name I, L. Graykin, often use to designate the supposed performers on my song demos. Sometimes I use a different designation. More experimental/spoken word type stuff I usually label by Scales. Sometimes I use a variant of one of those, or use my own last name. It depends.
I've been writing songs since the 70's, and when digital recording technology came along, I finally saw how I could make manifest (aurally) the notes and noises swimming in my head. I primarily use loops from drumsondemand.com for rhythm and "play" (often via manually entered MIDI lines or painstaking editing of guitar takes) everything else.
As you listen, please judge the songs, not the performances. I hope there's something here you like...if so, let me know. Plenty more where these came from. And if you are a vocalist or a REAL band looking for this sort of material, email post haste.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: graykin.com
Band Members: L. Graykin: I am an English Language Arts teacher at a public school in NH. Parent of two boys, I am married to writer Justine Graykin. In my spare time I raise chickens and gripe about politics. I am also on the board of the NH Center for Integrated Curriculum, a non-profit organization which has been working to launch an innovative new middle school in southeastern NH; see NHCIC's website for more information.
And when I have time, I compose, arrange, and record music. I used to play in a band called YARD SALE which is long since departed. I've been trying to play guitar for about 30 years now.
The fine and talented folks at Drums on Demand created the drum and percussion loops I use.

Influences: In no particular order: Beatles, Atlantics (now-defunct Boston band--see their page here at MySpace), XTC, Floppie the Banjo Clown, the Bachs (both JS and PDQ), Roxy Music, Dickies, Toy Dolls, X, Joe Jackson, John Cage, Brian Wilson, They Might Be Giants, 60's garage/punk/surf music, Gershwin, Probyn and all his compatriots, Go-Go's, Philip Glass, Lerner and Loewe, Monkees, Robyn Hitchcock, Mrs. Miller, Sagittarius, Michael Nesmith, Dvorak, Elvis Costello, Steely Dan, Roy Zimmerman, Kristian Hoffman, Madness, Charles Ives, Smothers Brothers, Joe Darion and Mitch Leigh, Bangles, Clash, Cowsills, Peter Tork, Devo, Beethoven, Eno, Split Enz, Steve Reich, Sparks, and Frank Zappa, to name a few.
Sounds Like: Take the list of influences, above, put 'em into a sonic blender, and agitate briefly. Pour out a random selection of pureé and chunks, and there you have it.

I support Michael Moore's vision of universal healthcare, as it will bring the USA to a better place. (Click here to learn what we can do.)

MPeace3 sometimes sounds silly and pretentious...

"FANFARE FOR THE UNCOMMON WOMAN" from 2007's EVEN ODDS AND ENDS TO MEANS album.

And sometimes MPeace3 just sounds weird...

"THIRD POSSIBILITY" from 2005's PAST TENSE GRAY album.
(For a larger, clearer version of the music video embedded above, click on "videos" under my picture, above.)

On occasion, MPeace3 attempts to sound serious:

"DO I DARE" from 2007's SINGLE FILE album.
