About Me

As lyricist, lead singer, and founder of both the band and the concept, Heathen Girls, I am excited to share my press archives, personal stories, music, and mirth with all who are interested in a mythic time long ago and far away.A sneak peak into the gloriously miserable, yet festively iconic times that we, the denizens of the Early Atlanta Music Scene, shared and survived! The legendary 688 Club,(Home of the Heathen Girls) The Agora Ballroom, The Bistro, The Metroplex, Numbers, Rumours, are but a few of the haunts in Atlanta that still exist in memory and dreamscapes.Clubb Mudd, The Ritz, Trax, My Father's Place on Long Island (opening for the outstanding Jim Carroll Band) are but a few places in New York that welcomed us with open arms. Here you will find pictures, stories, music, personal accounts, and loving rememberances of those no longer with us,except in our hearts and minds. This page will be an infinite resource for all things Heathen Girls,as well as featuring new music from myself and my very favorite co-writers on the planet!!!:The Amazing Bruce Smith, world class guitarist and songwriter, the Legendary Karl Precoda, lead guitarist for the Late, Great Dream Syndicate of Los Angeles, and the prodigious Ben Tyzack of the Spike-Drivers, of the UK.Anyone can see I am keeping excellent musical company!Thank you to all the music men who shared with me and supported me artistically; lovers of music, and women...long live the enlightened male!Thank you to all the friends, fans, and local supporters who made it all possible, and kept showing up and tuning in!Special thanks to Janet Caldwell for managing the band, dealing with the crisis times between co-writers, and keeping the HG time bomb from detonating on a daily basis. Truly, a Mission Impossible! Without her, there would have been no Heathen Girls, the band. And very special thanks to my best friends, The Heathen Girls, who inspired me to write the song and live the Heathen Code: Cyndi, Vikki, Pam, Wanda,Jill, Barbie, Susan, Becky,Rose etc. and the long suffering band members, who played behind me, and walked in front of me, so I could get to the stage!Love and thanks from my heart, always.Stay tuned! More to come shortly.Best to all, Rose Whipperr

Sounds Like: "Dark vs. Light" ( single,1979) "Whisky, Roxy, Rainbow blues/ I've got vomit on my blue suede shoes Children play in the devil's yard/ While angels bleed - on the boulevard." Lyrics by Rose Whipperr Some of the most honest and powerful lyrics to ever come out of Atlanta capture the struggle most bands face trying to turn hometown fame into national exposure. Conceived in the extravagant terms of the time, early '80's bands remembered their roots but had lost their way, seeking elusive record deals. This was a song that put things back in perspective, warning that behind all that glittered lay a grime, and that " Dark vs. Light" casts a macabre glance at the lure of rock 'n' roll. It's about the underbelly of success and the outside chance that if you take the dare, but keep your wits you just might beat the odds and save your soul.- DAVID T.LINDSAY , for Stomp and Stammer's "Classic Atlanta Songs" of August, 02 -thanx DTL!
