Eighteen year old Elliott Morris has been playing electric guitar since the age of 11 and acoustic guitar for just over a year under the tutelage of guitarist, Andy Taylor. Elliott has also had an impromptu masterclass by acoustic guitar master Newton Faulkner, who recently described the demo tracks for Elliott’s forthcoming EP as “wicked†and “awesomeâ€!Elliott supported the amazing acoustic virtuoso Erik Mongrain at the end of February 2008 and has also chatted to and been taught bits and bobs by Andy Mckee, Jon Gomm, John Butler and Dale Campell.From a very young age Elliott was listening to such bands and artists as The Beatles and Bob Dylan and from here decided to learn how to play guitar like them.Elliott’s style however does vary from most as he uses the guitar like a percussion instrument as well as a stringed one. He beats the body of the guitar at the same time as playing it, creating an original and unique sound.Elliott’s influences include such musicians as Seth Lakeman, Frank Turner, Eric Roche and Newton Faulkner. Elliott has even had the privilege of meeting and being taught by Newton Faulkner at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 2006. Newton heard Elliott playing and came over to listen. After talking for a while, he handed Elliott his guitar and asked him to play some more, then taught Elliott many techniques and a few of his own songs.Elliott has recently played at both Lincoln and Gainsborough Folk Festivals and had his own slot live at BBC Radio Lincolnshire where he received rave reviews. Elliott said, “I played three songs for BBC Radio Lincolnshire and was interviewed as well, it was a fantastic experience".Elliott Morris is also the lead guitarist and singer in the Lincolnshire rock band Eponymous and is also the Contemporary Rock lead guitarist in Lincolnshire's Jazz and Rock Academy.On top of this, Elliott for the last two years has played guitar in a swing jazz band called The Bluestones.To hear one of Elliott’s performances on the BBC broadcast, check his Myspace player.
