I am a self taught guitarist.
I have been playing various instruments from the age of 8. I picked up a guitar when i was 13. Coming from a not overly musical family , it's been through friends that i have found this passion and interest in and for music. I was involved with all the various musical groups through education including choirs, jazz bands, folk group, orchestras where i learnt to play violin, piano and recorder. It was when i was 13 that my interest for playing instruments realy started. Before the guitar i aquired and started playing the bodhran, whistle, bongos, flute and harmonica. Me and my friends decided to create a folk band where a guitarist was needed. The band was callled 'No Comment'. I was given a nylon string and that's where it started for me.From the age of 13 to 15 i was involved in 'No Comment' and the folk music scene. We were shortlisted for the BBC Radio 2 young folk awards. From this i found a love of folk music which has continued to influence my playing. After 'No Comment' i was in a couple of folk duos which never realy got off the ground. After that my guitar playing just petered out to nothing.I had a gap of 2 years where i played no guitar and i eventualy picked it up again after bumping into Eric Roche at one of the NEC Music Live events. Thanks to Eric i found a new vigour for guitar and it's possibilities and ever since i've become a guitar enthusiast.I am currently involved in Arco Iris a samba band, and have now developed a love of rhythm and percussion from this experience.I am still obsessed by instruments and have aquired a few more since then but i always go back to the guitar. At present i am in the creative stage of composing and developing my own style and pieces.
