OK then, here's the history lesson.................
JD and the Longfellows formed in 2006 and immediately embarked on a mission to set the world alight with a unique blend of Psychoskiffle, Renegade Folk and Landlubber Surf, all served through the delicate haze of Choral Society Harmonies.
Their first album ‘Confessions’ was released in November 2006. Fourteen tracks penned by JD and described as the musical equivalent of mini disaster movies, it explored contemporary themes such as the mile high club, wedding nightmares, celebrity look-a-likes, con artistry, reality TV shows, holiday nightmares, marriage breakdown, philandery and even vigilantism, mainly as a consequence of alcoholic over-indulgence.
The album received extensive Celtic-folk-alt-country radio play, particularly in the USA and was selected as one of the Top 10 albums of 2006 by Radio Rebel Gael in New York and just outside the Top 10 by Shite’n’Onions Radio in Boston.
“A great soundtrack to your nights out and in” Word Vixen, USA
“This isn't just the best damned drinking album of the year; it's the best damned CD to play before you go out drinking to pump yourself up album of the year”
AND
“They sound so good on this CD I want them to chart on Billboard and win Grammy’s!” (Shite’n’Onions Radio, Boston, USA)
In 2007 they released a remix of the song: ‘Why?’ from Confessions, featuring a stunning vocal performance from Miss Clare Shortfellow, played over 70 gigs, including three UK tours and high profile clubs such as What's Cookin' in Leytonstone, London Callin' at the 12 Bar Club, Gypsy Hotel in N London and Club Orange in Islington. They have also supported bands such as Neck (twice) and Alabama 3, performed at a few festivals and in front of hundreds (if not thousands) of sun-worshippers on Brighton Beach.
"Nice set up" Shane MacGowan of the Pogues (who also bought Gemma a drink!)
And now at last, a second 12-track album was released on 22nd February 2008. Entitled ‘Happy Hour Again!’, it relives some of the alcoholic excesses of its predecessor. However, with diverse song-writing contributions from Miss Clare Shortfellow and Mr. Karma Clayfellow as well as those from JD, the album explores themes such as life on the road, abstention, ephemeral romance, necrophilia, predatory dating, retribution from a scorned lover and compulsive adultery. Throughout, however, it evokes the atmosphere you expect at the best party of the year, even containing a birthday song for the 21st Century!
Why don’t you come along and join us one night and see if you can drink us under the table and dance us off the stage. You will certainly feel your jaw drop watching the amazing Gemma Stringfellow (no relation) on violin or follow the new fashion and style icon Mr Malcolm 'Naomi' Campbellfellow as he single-handedly plays the drums while displaying a variety of hand-picked Fezzs from around the world.
