STEViE - One Bloke One Mandolin
NOW
STEViE's music is gutsy, edgy and raw - a hardcore, barstool troubadour - with a voice as raw as cigarettes and single malt in a backstreet bar late on a Saturday night.
For the last eight years STEViE has been playing regularly at many motorcycle rallies and festivals all over the UK receiving some great reviews and picking up new fans at every gig.
2007 saw him, amongst many other gigs, playing/hosting bars at The Welsh International Motorcycle Show in Builth Wells and The National Association for Bikers with Disabilities (NABD) Rally at Astle Park in Cheshire along with a supporting slot on the bill with Status Quo at the Bulldog Bash.
2008 has been busy too. Along with the NABD at Astle Park and The Bulldog Bash, the OGRI Rally and The Farmyard Party there have been many other appearances at rallies around England. STEViE has also played at the Quay Vipers MCC's Snakebite Rally in Limavardy in Ireland, the Saints & Sinners Rally in Scotland and a series of house concerts in Wales raised money for the fighting fund for Welsh Motorcycle Shows Ltd. A couple of gigs are left to play then it's a break until next April.... unless anything comes up in the meantime.
THEN (The history bit)
Raised on the south coast of England, Stevie played in a couple of rock bands trying (and sometimes succeeding) to write original songs. Moving to Reading he joined metal band IronHeart and it was around this time he discovered, through local rock show presenter Brian Pithers (R.I.P - Rock In Perpetuity mate), the music of Steve Earle. After IronHeart he toured in the UK and France with hard rock band The Pack. Taking a break from music when The Pack split, Stevie eventually joined country band Kane & Co. remaining with them for four years, touring throughout the UK, Germany and Poland, playing on major country festivals in the UK, Spain, France, Poland, Denmark, and Holland, and releasing an album along the way, recorded in Nashville, called ' Raising Kane' . On leaving Kane & Co. he formed Cactus Jack and toured with them extensively throughout Germany for two years whilst releasing two albums, including the highly acclaimed '...ain't nothin' like PRESSURE' of which he wrote a majority of the material.
Touring with Kane & Co. and Cactus Jack had meant missing many bike rallies and wishing to work solo with the mandolin (with the addition sometimes of harmonica) Stevie started gigging out on his own whilst still with Cactus Jack, opening out his repetoire playing the songs of Steve Earle, Townes Van Zant, Richard Thompson, Fairport Convention, Jimmy LaFave, The Proclaimers, Small Faces, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Alice Cooper !! and a good few more.
STEViE is still playing some of the favorites that have made him a well known fixture on the rally scene along with material from his solo albums ' .... a little further down the line', ' Too Poor For Trailer Trash ' and 'RIDE'______________________________________________________

HOUSE CONCERTS RAISING MONIES FOR THE WMS FIGHTING FUND
Back in August, a week before the Angelsey Bike Show was due to take place it was cancelled by the showground commitee upon information from the North Wales Police Authority(more details below). To help raise funds for a fightin' fund I am undertakin' a series of 'House Gigs'. If you want to book me for a house gig, no PA, just acoustic an' intimate. You need a house with a big enough room to hold around 15 to 25 of your friends who will give a donation of £10 each. I'll only be takin' enough to cover petrol costs for the gig the rest goes to the fightin' fund. I have already played three gigs of this nature booked an' filled in South Wales. We raised over £600. If you're interested in puttin' one of these together then contact me through MySpace or my email: [email protected]'s what happened to start this....CANCELLED BY THE SHOWGROUND COMMITEE UNDER ADVICE FROM THE POLICE AND WITH NO EVIDENCE OR MENTION OF INFORMATION BEING GIVEN....
My mate Steve Bennett of Welsh Motorcycle Shows Ltd sent me this in an email....
This is part of the E-mail I was sent at 4.50pm on Friday.Four and a half working days before we were due to open.'The Society has asked me to advise you that it has this afternoon received a further e-mail from Acting Chief Inspector Andy Williams of the North Wales Police. In the e-mail, the Police have strongly recommended that the Society refuses permission for your event.I am not at liberty to disclose the contents of the e-mail but can say that the Police have advised that there is a heightened risk of serious public disorder and criminality at the event and recommend the show is cancelled. As such, and in view of the heightened risk to public safety, the Society has, with much regret decided that it has no option but to accept the recommendation of the Police and refuse consent for the show.
Steve then went on to say....
I have no choice or say in this.Once again I have had to pay out for equipment hire, printing, consumable supplies, etc. Once again I won’t get that money back. Please write/phone/E-mail your MP.Ask “How can the Police be allowed to do thisâ€They haven’t gone through the courts or the licensing authorities. They haven’t produced any “evidence†to back up their position. We have never called the police to any of our events to deal with any violent behaviour, EVER.Steve
Please go do as he asks, write to your MP (in the UK) an' go ask 'How can the Police be allowed to do this'
'They haven’t gone through the courts or the licensing authorities'
'They haven’t produced any “evidence†to back up their position'
