About Me
The single most wonderful thing about the music of Dylan Fowler is how
quickly the listener becomes unconscious of the fact that one is listening
to a guitar! The profound musicality of Dylan's writing and playing makes
for an experience that transcends the bounds of what is often accepted as
"guitar music." Dylan creates fine, memorable, emotionally engaging music
which goes light years beyond the obvious fact that he is a very talented
player of his chosen instrument. Don Ross Canadian Guitar Maestro.I began my professional career in the early 'eighties' as part of a duo with Dominic Miller - The Latin/Jazz guitars of Miller & Fowler. Seems like a long time ago now but a very formative experience.
Since those days I've followed a path of exploration which has brought me in touch with many musicians from different parts of the world and from different cultures. Along the way I've developed as a specialist acoustic guitar player as well as a multi-instrumentalist (oboe/clarinet/whistles/percussion/piano). Over the years I've toured with some wonderful people, all of whom have influenced and shaped my own solo work. Richard Thompson, Danny Thompson, Julie Murphy, Tina May, Akash Deep (Rajasthan), Husna Arslan (Turkey), Konarak Reddy (India), Don Ross (Canada), Peter Finger (Germany), Dessislava Stefanova (Bulgaria)and Stefano Giaccone (Italy).
I formed the influential band Frevo in the early 'nighties' featuring wonderful British musicians such as Jonathan Gee(piano), Bosco Doliviera(percussion), Winston Clifford(drums) and Sovra(violin). The band released their debut cd on Danny Thompsons newly formed Jazz Label to great acclaim.
Since 1998 I have been part of the wonderful British/Balkan Collective known as Szapora and have appeared at many major festivals. Szapora's lastest cd 'The Homeland of our Wanderings' was recorded at my specialist studio here in Wales (Stiwdio Felin Fach) and on its release in December 2004, was the fastest selling world-music cd in HMV London. www.lejazzetal.com
I have 2 solo cds released on the prestigious Acoustic Music Records Label based in Germany which explore my musical journeys and bring together influences from my native Wales along with my interest in music from Eastern Europe/other parts of the Celtic Diaspora as well as improvisation and composition (www.acoustic-music.de).
The last two years has seen the development of the unique trio, Taith featuring Gillian Stevens (viols and crwth) and Timo Vaananen (kantele). Our debut cd (Now & Then - Old and New Music fro Wales and Finland) was recorded and mastered at Stiwdio Felin Fach and is the first release on Taith Records.

My solo work has increased also over the last few years with tours in Canada, USA, India, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic. One of my greatest joys as a musician is to travel and collaborate with other musicians and these experiences often give me hope in a world where the powerful voices would seem to wish it otherwise.
March 2006 sees the release in Italy of a wonderful collaboration with my great friend, Stefano Giaccone. The album 'Tres os Montes' is beautiful and profound set of songs also recorded in Stiwdio Felin Fach.
Stiwdio Felin Fach set up in our 18th Century Mill in South Wales has been going from strength to strength. I specialise in recording acoustic-orientated music with the emphasis on capturing performances. The space has been inhabited by mainy different types of musicians and over the last year it was a great privilege to host a recording by a label that has had a huge influence on me over the years, ECM Records.
Performances coming up in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Finland, Belgium and even Wales!
