About Me

'a gorgeous voice....jazz-tinted...evocative...sophisticated songwriting....utterly gorgeous melody....'Snowdrop' is a thing of beauty' collectedsounds.com ‘Much is to be said about Chloë’s musical tapestry, most prominently it’s visual/cinematic quality – the lyrical imagery and flow….the harmonic coloration, the depth of rhythmic undertow…. are all geared towards presenting the intensity of conditions and states of the mind – an inner theatre made tangible by sound….’ juliansflight.com
I'm currently finishing my NEW ALBUM ~ it's been four years in the making as I've taught myself how to mix and record it along the way. It's water-inspired and infused ~ moats, sea-bells, melting ice and rivers, Venice, Casanova and twilit fountains, Anne Boleyn and the Thames all feature. The album will be released Summer 2008 please check here and my website for the date
Other recent work includes a 40min original score for Politik Dance Theatre and choreographer Julie Hope. The piece 'realPolitik' will be premiered in London May 23rd (2008) at the Michaelis Theatre, Roehampton Uni and then performed over the summer. I've sung guest vocals on two tracks for the Gorgeous band from Western Australia - Glassacre The tracks will be on their new album 'Without Sleep' (Hidden Shoal Recordings due for release 2008) Film-makers or choreographers interested in using tracks/commissioning new work contact me here or through my website www.chloemarch.co.uk details from two mixed-media artworks in the slideshow are 'River Rising' and 'Venezia' both by Emma Bell

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: chloemarch.co.uk
Band Members: For the new album it's all me, with the wonderful Emma Bell on French Horn.Players on 'Snowdrop' and 'The Fisherman's House' - Ben Hylands: Drums, Matt Southcombe: Cello
Influences: The sound of my mum practising the piano - so, loads of composers, but Schumann, Chopin, Ravel and Bach would have to be in there. Theatre Music; Ilona Sekacz in particular. Film Music; Gabriel Yared, Lisa Gerrard, Bill Conti First album I begged for aged 5: 'Eight Songs for a Mad King' by Peter Maxwell Davies, not quite sure why, I think I liked the man's voice and the groovy photo on the cover.... Usually it's the voices I fall for - here's a few; Jane Siberry, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Sting, David Sylvian, k d lang, Elizabeth Fraser, Sarah Jane Morris, Ella Fitzgerald, Judie Tzuke, Goldfrapp, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon and then it's all the usual suspects - Stravinsky, Steve Reich, Debussy, Free, Yes, Pink Floyd, Talk Talk, everything but the girl, pet shop boys, Britten, Nick Cave, Vaughan Williams Other huge influences: Charles Dickens, Michelle Roberts, Angela Carter, Emily Brönte, Charlotte Brönte, Thomas Hardy, Wilkie Collins, Sarah Waters, T.S. Eliot, Caspar David Friedrich, Peter Ackroyd should be making sense by now.....

Burial Clouds / Album

I think of this as my 'credits roll' music for the dance-theatre piece 'realPolitik'. The vocal takes a few lines from a Walt Whitman poem 'On the Beach at Night' - mostly the phrase 'burial clouds' ...

I guess 'Wolvish' has fairly obvious (twisted) fairy-tale roots. That, and the piano bass-line that set up the landscape of the song.Above is my doodle of the wolf/wolvy - I only just realised he's g...
