FYODOR D is a free-jazz and improvisation project.
Which was born by Paolo and Marco’s interest for the reed instruments and percussion.
The duet finds in this way a more fertile structure, creating continuous roles’ exchanges and fluid, rhythmic and surprising music.
The Fyodor’s music has a strong and informal tie with the jazz-language.
The highly dynamic rhythmic interplay plays an important role when proposing works by the greatest musicians of the past, in the structured compositions and the free-improvisations, spontaneous and energetic.
The linkage with the jazz tradition by Ornette Coleman, William Parker, Sam Rivers and the Art Ensemble of Chicago is all based in an optic of free-proposition and joyful displacement, made possible by the heterogeneity of the duet, the style variety and by the ability to offer mutual stimulations and contrasts.
Paolo Benzoni
I am a drummer and drummer-teacher, who have developed an in-depth study of the instrument with Massimo Caracca and Carlo Virzi, as well as by carrying out “laboratories†and ensemble-music courses provided by different musicians amongst whom Stefano Solani and Simone Massaron.
During the course of the 90’, I have been a member of different rock bands, and since the year 2000 I am involved in different research projects in the areas of free-jazz, reading-groups, trios, quartets, and quintets, all tending to a new interpretation of the standards.
I have projected and realized the sound for silent-films: with Press Trio, “Nosferatu†by F.W.Murnau; with Freeze Frames Quartet, “Celovek s kinoapparatum†by Dziga Vertov; with the composer and guitarist Luca Zotti (duet), the short-movie “In the Park†by Charlie Chaplin.
I play regularly with the improvisation-quartet I/O.
I am part of the Sound Painting Italian Orchestra (S.P.I.O.)
