About Me

Bit'ahnii nishli doo 'Ashihii bashishchiin. Haashk'aanhadzohi dashichei. Bit'ahnii dashinali. Tsihidzo'dee ayisi nashaa. Kad, Teelch'init'i'i ei shighan. Nihikaa Dine nishlii.I have encountered many cultures and ethnicities of which I have a tongue for their grub. I "dig" food. I eat all kinds of food. I've tasted Vietnamese(#13), Chinese(dim sum...), Phillipino, Italian, French, southern and northern Indian(no feathers, but perfect on my crazy taste buds), Greek(O-PA!!!), Iraqi, Saudi Arabian, Lebanonese(delish), MEXICAN(tons of different types, almost my favorite), El Salvadoran, American Cuisine, Thai(damn hot!), Japanese(sushi...), Navajo soul food(elk, deer, achii, dilth, ribs, liver, sheep head, prairie dog, rabbit) and of course NATIVE GRUB...I like wild rice, salmon and different flavors of elk and deer. Of course, the beef and buffalo stews are awesome. Berry dishes ROCK! Woozhapii and ch'ilchiin taste the same. Huckleberries and roots of the northwest are killer. Want to have lunch? :)I am the founder/owner/moderator of Groovin Native Beats: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/groovinnativebeats/ It's a kick-ass Native site for info, jokes and little contests. It's in the top 5 of all Yahoo Native American groups! it kills...
Click to join groovinnativebeatsI have a black and white photo darkroom in my house next to my shop area. It's in my kitchen. I've been shooting for about 17 years. Recently, I've been mostly shooting event stuff: nothing too interesting. But, I have been wanting to get back into my b/w processing and print some Ag prints. I have been doodling with my dyes and the fiber prints, but the images deteriorate. Hopefully, I can naturally tone my images. I have a bunch of old powwow photos and photos of "Indians". Other than that, I am still looking for a model for some photos of corn fields here on the rez. I hope to do those photos for a show. Also, I want to do a project on Rez dogs. Rez dogs are the coolest. They have no worries except when and where to eat. I've seen them sleeping or rolling around on the ground soaking up the sun while Hopi kachinas danced nearby. It was an awesome image, but I had no camera...:( oh well...it's those type of images I go for. check out these old photos: http://www.geocities.com/deschinny/DESCHINNY.htmlOh yeah, if you have seen the advertisements for the American Indian College Fund, I am in that ad. It was my two cents to help the college fund... width="425" height="350" ....To pay the bills, I design, test, evaluate, produce and sell Navajo weaving looms and tools. It is the beginning of my business of Navajo weaving. Other than that, I'm a college bum.Currently, I am on hiatus from my organic chemistry studies of indigenous natural colorants. I'm a bit of a dye nerd due to my family's extensive dye knowledge. :)I have a little woodshop in my house. Check out my loom and tool site: http://www.geocities.com/deschinny/Looms_and_Supplies.htmlI also provide professional services such as consulting and demonstrations, workshops and presentations in regards to Navajo weaving and dyeing. I demonstrate and lecture on Navajo Dyeing with all it's interesting nuances. I present on Navajo weaving, but not demonstrate or teach Navajo weaving since I am not a weaver. I coordinate workshops for Navajo weaving, Navajo dyeing, Navajo sashbelt weaving, Navajo basket weaving. Hopefully, I plan to offer Hopi/Pueblo weaving and dyeing...

Music:

BLUEGRASS... I dig the honky-tonk and especially the "Twang". My late father was a radio dj before he became a lawyer. But, he played alot of traditional bluegrass. As such, I dig it. Here are some musical artists I dig: Hank Williams Sr., Big Bear, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Gene Vincent, Slayer, Blackfoot Confederacy, Selector, Audioslave, Tony Bennett, Lee Scratch Perry, Motorhead, Link Wray, KRS-One, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Motley Crue, Mandaree, Black Eyed Peas, Nekromantix, AC/DC, WAYLON Friggin JENNINGS, Rob Zombie, Blackfoot Crossing, Septic Death, Dee-lite, BILL MONROE, MILES DAVIS, Sound Garden, BO DIDDLEY, Three Bad Jacks, Bill Haley and the Comets, Buckcherry, STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, Van Halen(Roth era), Madness, Ministry, Prince, ROB ZOMBIE, Klagetoh Swingers(late-Ned Tsosie era), JOHN LEE HOOKER, Vicente Fernandez, Primus, Mandaree Eagle Whistle, JOHNNY CASH, Rage Against the Machine, RAY CHARLES, Indigenous, The Specials, The Eagles, Fishbone, Peter Tosh, Metallica, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, MARLEY, Badlands Singers, Nickelback, SINATRA, Beethovan, DEAN MARTIN, DEL MCCOURY, Judas Priest, LIGHTIN HOPKINS, Little Richard, White Zombie, Elvis Crespo, English Beat, Echo and the Bunnymen, Patsy Cline, Mr. Bungle, C.C.R., Police, Bad Brains, Doc Watson, U2, Ludicris, JUNIOR BROWN, Count Basie, Doobie Brothers, Johnny Horton, Cab Callaway, B-52's, WILLIE NELSON, The Doors, Mariachi Vargas, JIMI HENDRIX, Amadeus, JAMES BROWN, Dan Deschinny and the Waanishch'ini's, NORTHERN CREE, Loretta Lynn, ELVIS, Matos and Mateos, Native Roots, Reverend Horton Heat, The Clash, Ed Natay, Jet, Heart....deep sexi house, salsa/meringue/cumbia and many more...

Movies:

I'm down with alot of flics, but I don't like scary movies and weird b/w avante garde east german flics. Im cool with "chic flics", since I watch them with a lady. :) BUT, the Blues Brothers is the standard; You can NOT beat Cab Calloway, John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles on the same flic! Chappelle's Block Party has nothing on Jake/Elwood. It's funny as hell with thee best cameos, cool threads, shades and great lines: "No ma'am...we're musicians." ; Storm Riders, The Warrior, Fast Runner, Revenge of the Streetfighter, Walk The Line, "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover", The Hidden Blade, Repo Man, Where the Green Ants Dream, 4 Rooms, ELF, Kings of Comedy, Talladega Nights(Texas Ranger..LMAO!!!), Dance Me Outside("IM the badger!"), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka!(Fishbone rocked!), Easy Rider, Friday, 1941, Animal House, Gone With The Wind, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Godfather, Lord of the Rings 1-3, Matrix 1-3, Star Wars I-VI, Dune(Sting version), Alfie, Blade Runner, Finding Nemo, Madagasgar, REPO MAN, Return of the Living Dead, Evil Dead, Lords of Dogtown, Catch Me If You Can, Ultimate Fighting videos(I love fighting), Monterey Pop Festival(Hendrix & The Who), Kagemusha, Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Enter the Dragon, X-Men(I collected Wolverine as a kid), Poolhall Junkies(Walken & Chaz!!!), Pulp Fiction, Clerks, Clerks II(Rosario Dawson...:P)

Television:

old Bugs Bunny, old Droopy, old Tom & Jerry, Daily Show, Colbert Report, South Park, SNL(original cast, Phil Hartman & Will Ferrell eras), Mythbusters, History channel...

Books:

I recently read a book on Hopi Spider Woman. I don't read much...If I do, I mostly read books on Navajo culture, Navajo history, dyes, natural colorants...I'm trying to read this book on string theory. I keep putting it off. It' a bit interesting in that I see alot of Navajo philosophy in it with it's dualism and at times, "mysterious" explanations other than "it just does that." It fiddles with physical and my interpreted "spiritual" existances seen from a purely science point of view. It's wickeddddddd.

Heroes:

Past leaders who prayed, offered and negotiated for what we enjoy nowadays.
