About Me

I am an Old Time fiddler & a singer, mainly. I also play the guitar and the banjo some, and write songs when the mood strikes me. I'm a child of the 1970's, born and raised in southern Louisiana. The music I dig ranges from The Balfa Brothers to KISS, Beethoven to Led Zeppelin, Black Uhuru to Bessie Smith, etc. etc. etc. Love the old stuff that's got piss & vinegar in it like the Skillet Lickers and Tommy Jarrell -- and of course the good old Cajun stuff. I fell in love with the Norwegian hardanger fiddle the moment I first heard the music of the amazing Norwegian musician Anon Egeland. (Big thanks to Bruce Molsky for that, eh.) This gorgeous instrument is meant to be cross-tuned, and has sympathetic understrings which take cross-tuning into the stratosphere. Just my cuppa tea. I've got me an old 1925 Joh. Lyngvaer hardingfele, and tattoos to match it. (Check out the gallery on my website at www.fachalarecords.com to see that.)
I have one old CD out called Trouble Come Knockin' on which I play Old Time tunes (some of which I wrote) on the hardanger fiddle. And I sing one old hymn on it that I learnt off an old Ola Belle Reed album, too. Talk about righteous grit, that's Ola Belle Reed, she's one of my main heroes.
I've got enough songs and tunes written to make at least a couple more CDs, but I've been scattered and tattered lately and the CD recording effort has been put on the shelf for a long while. But eventually I'll be collecting my energies and efforts and muses of all kinds, dustin' off the originals, and recording again. So keep yer eyes and ears peeled, buddy. Meanwhile... check out the old CD at www.cdbaby.com/sadiec and hear me and my pals makin' some kinda unique music. Unique & antique.
I'm also a painter. Well -- I studied sculpture in college, but mostly I paint now. OK, sometimes... because I'm also a MOM and I have the most gorgeous perfect beautiful genius children a gal could possibly ask for, and that is the work of art with which I am currently so very occupied, bro.

Sadie's debut fiddle album showcases her enticing blend of Appalachian Old Time soul and Cajun fire, and also offers a sample of her pure mountain voice. This unique release features the haunting Norwegian Hardanger fiddle in a completely American setting. Trouble Come Knockin' is a spirited collection of old and new fiddle tunes from the American Southeast, featuring the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle played by Sadie. She is joined by top-notch musicians, including Old Time music icons Bruce Molsky and James Bryan; world-renowned mandolinist Mike Compton (of the Nashville Bluegrass Band, and recent O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack fame); Grammy-winning songwriter/musician Candace Randolph; guitarist Oscar Rice (formerly of Nashville's Goth-Folk trio The Shakers); and guitarist Steve Johnson. Sadie brings a fresh new voice to the American Old Time music scene. Tracks include six traditional fiddle tunes, four originals which reflect Sadie's south-Louisiana upbringing, and one old shape-note hymn learned from the late, great Ola Belle Reed. Produced by Alan O'Bryant (of the Nashville Bluegrass Band.)
