About Me

Ive been playing music almost as far back as i can remember, went thru alot different stlyes before i found the one i really love. I started out playing guitar when i was just a young kid, I then realized that it was going to take alot of years to really master the guitar. (is that even possable?) My Dad always played and sang with his buddies ever since i was born and my brother played like he never had to try. I then said to myself ( i need some drums) I picked up a old beat up set of drums and beat on them through out my middle school days and then decided it wasnt for me. So back to the guitar i went and learned a ton of Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, and Tom Petty tunes to keep me busy.I would jam with alot of really talented folks along the way one of my biggest influeces ever Willy Roberts. I remember thinking to myself wow if i could play half as good as him i would never have to leave my house! I would go and play with him and his friends as much as i could and still wouldnt pass up the chance to sit and pick songs all night with him. He had a old banjo that never really got played to much and I would pick it up with a book of a few chords and try to follow along as much as i could.I was in love with the 5 strings, so a few months later i saved my money and got my own banjo. I then began to learn the 3 finger picking and just didnt really like it all that much when i met this wonderful woman (Kathy Fink) at the Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival. She sat down with me at a bajon workshop and stared to play a few songs that just blew my mind, she called it clawhammer banjo and i soaked up as much of it as i could. I bought a few books and tried learn that way but i couldnt do it, so i messed around tring to copy sounds and licks Ive heard from some old time mountain bands and i was on my way.Now about 5 years into it here I am and I hope you like what you here! I need to give my brother Cody Litkey alot for helping my though whole recording process, couldnt of done anything close to it without his experience!!!**** Nils Litkey********** These four songs were recorded on a cold night in my old studio apartment with some new recording gear I was itching to use. This was the first musical thing I did with my brother seriously. I was impressed with his ability to nail a take and to play the same thing twice. We only got a chance to put vocals on one of these songs but I'm happy with the way they turned out. Nils was in New Orleans working after the hurricane. I made this so he can show people what he does. This kid can stop a room, I've seen it happen.
