Goldfish Nation is a small, ramshackle publication, currently based in london (for the next month. watch this space for the next destination....possibly oxford....).
issue 1 (april 06) was a fat 60-odd pages, shiny, with a complementary bookmark, and can be described as....
ramshackle, enthusiastic, heart of green and gold, urban mermaids, hate, bad illustrations, fear, fiction, stories, joy, lies, half truths, drunkenness, milly molly mandy, band stalking, interviews, anti corporate, grafitti-ing, stompy booted, tongue in cheek, hands down pants, fifties adventure stories for girls, beauty, illustrations, sandwiches, cups of tea, social centres, satire, ranting, righteous anger, groovy people, cheap photocopying, full of love
a bit more properly, it contained very short stories - artwork - articles on tribal brains in a global village, alternative feminism, flying/environmentalism, 'ethical shopping' - a few well placed chunks of satire -
a couple of band interviews - tour reviews [the music bits included the national, clogs, thomas truax, the books and hush the many] - original poetry -
and random(er) bits and bobs...
issue 2's gone a bit tits up...originally the plan was:
"issue 2's coming in august 07, made exclusively from contributions from attendees and performers from the Latitude Festival in Suffolk, in July 07.
issue 3's coming in september with a 'diy' theme (if it wasn't apparent enough from the first one).
contributions wanted (preferably by august 25th).
unfortunately, i got "surprise! homeless!"ed in mid august, and have been sofa surfing down south ever since (with my computer, containing all contributions, being Looked After a couple of hundred miles away...
the current plan is:
existing contributions will be got by mid october, and more contributions are extremely welcome.
the deadline is now the 26th october

last minute and just-past-closing date entries are fine, but can't make any guarantees about the latter. aiming to go to print on halloween :)
it's also going to come with a free cd :) so far, contributors include sputnik weazel, red guitars and (pending confirmation) the bobby mcgees.

goldfish nation the night(s)
the tufty club@the alma, crystal palace (26th september). a bit of a nightmare, meant to be a night of ear joy and dj's, but the speakers didn't work properly. so we gave up and got pissed instead. next attempt is next week (the 10th october)
Made Of Win@the packhorse,leeds (august 2nd). featuring: a wordy man called swithun, a naked performance poet called king zo (who is me), open mic for two daring people out there... plus cake and the usual drunken dj'ing.
the very first GN night in order to try make issue 2 free* was held at the mighty brudenell social in leeds on 27th july.....
the lineup consisted of the wonderful epic45, and tim and sam's the tim and sam band, home of the brave and thee northcoats. there was cake, arts and crafts, cowboys, burlesque dancers and the like.
*please note that the brudenell gig made a profit of minus thirty six pounds.
the horse gig broke even and enabled king zo to buy a pint for herself and angryfloss.finally
