About Me

My name is Fiona Knight, and I write Mystery Crime novels, which means I spend a lot of time working out how to kill people.

In the past I've studied Multi Media Journalism BA at Bournemouth University, prior to which I wrote a resource book for adult learners as part of my studies on adult literacy. I continued with Creative Writing at both Exeter and Winchester Universities, qualified as an Adult Education Teacher, and gained a certificate with the English Speaking Board. I also hold a Masters Degree in Advanced Gossiping, and a Doctorate in Displacement Activities.

For a while I wrote a column for the Western Morning News, and have contributed to the Bournemouth Daily Echo, as well as various other publications.

Entering writing competitions was my first move from journalism to fiction, with publications of winning short stories in 'Writers' Forum', and 'The Best Of', The Winchester Writers' Conference Anthology, for which the Adjudicator was generous enough to note ~ 'This is exceptional. A mile ahead of any other entry we judged, . . . prose of which any other writer would be proud.'

These days I'm writing Mystery Crime Novels. My books feature scientist-turned-detective Professor Robert Darwin.

The first in the sequence is THE SCAPEGOAT. Where guilt and innocence are redefined, and a young musician stands trial for murder.

DECIMATIO is the second book planned for the Darwin series. Death stalks an Orchestra, people are dying, and the only suspect is ... an Angel.

My Literary Agent is Paul Feldstein of The Feldstein Agency.

My Interests

If I sent you a friend request, your profile probably says you would like to meet other writers, or I just think you're great. Either way, I truly appreciate your acceptance.

As a butterfly, I've lived in London, Spain and Devon, but now I'm a contented snail, curled up in the house that has been my family's home for over two generations.

'To see a world in a grain of sand, ... And a heaven in a wild flower, . . . Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, . . . And eternity in an hour.' . . . William Blake.

My default mode is shallow and frivolous, happily distracted by anything girlie; fashion, handbags, shoes, perfume, cosmetics, and fresh flowers. I have elements of OCD, but my desk is a mess. Go figure. Traces of geek manifest in my adoration of all things Apple. Did I mention shoes?

'Work like you don't need the money, . . . Love like you've never been hurt, . . . Dance like nobody's watching, . . . Sing like nobody's listening . . . Live like it's heaven on earth.'

I'd like to meet:

THE SCAPEGOAT

Christmas Eve, twenty years ago.

Robert Darwin stood at an altar of a freezing Church, and offered an unforgivable deal to God.

Now he has returned to make amends.

But ghosts have awakened. Bitter memories and jealousies, long consigned to the dark, emerge from the shadows of guilt.

Darwin must choose between what he believes, what he knows to be true, and what he can prove.

But who is the enemy? . . . And who will take the blame?

'The Scapegoat' ~ oil on canvas, by William Holman Hunt (mock up cover).

From the Book of LEVITICUS ~ Chapter 16. '. . . But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive . . . to make atonement, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness . . . and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand to a fit man into the wilderness: And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited.'

'DECIMATIO' ~ THE SECOND BOOK OF THE DARWIN MYSTERIES.

'Angel of the Revelation' ~ by William Blake (mock up cover).

From the Book of REVELATION ~ Chapter 10. 'And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth. And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven . . . that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the choice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished.'

'Keep away from those who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you believe that you too can become great.' ~ Mark Twain.

Heroes:

Anyone who ever had an idea turned down; who went back to the drawing board after being told that it will never work; and who could so easily have given up, but kept persevering.

My Writers' Group, whose patience and support is a constant source of encouragement. And my husband, for his unwavering faith and for giving me the priceless gift of time.
