Award-winning writer and psychiatrist, JANINE CANAN is the author of Journeys with Justine, a book of stories; Goddesses, Goddesses, a book of essays; and ten books of poetry, including Changing Woman (Small Press Review “Pick”) and In the Palace of Creation: Selected Works 1969—1999. Her first book of poems, Of Your Seed, received a National Endowment for the Arts publication grant. Janine edited the acclaimed collections, Messages from Amma: In the Language of the Heart (“Best Spiritual Books 2004”), and She Rises like the Sun: Invocations of the Goddess by Contemporary American Women Poets (recipient of the 1990 Koppelman Award, “one of the best books to come from the Women’s Spirituality movement," said Booklist). Canan translated Star in My Forehead: Poems by Else Lasker-Schüler, a BookSense "Pick" and a City Lights “Favorite." Her work has been anthologized by Andrei Codrescu, June Cotner, Andrew Harvey, James Laughlin, and numerous others.
