Alison, I finished "The Gypsy Chronicles" while on vacation in Mexico. I enjoyed it very much as a novel creation/objet d'art. It works in an unorthodox way, which I'm sure pleases you! Gitana does a great job of capturing just how fun and sexy a place Spain is today; the modern overlaying the traditional in a truly successful juxtaposition one can't find anywhere else. It brought me back to my times there.

However, when I began to read, what I found instead was an artfully arranged mosaic of colorful stories and memorable characters that takes place in the town of Ronda, Andalusia.
