Jon Crowe began playing the Guitar at the very early age of 4 years old, obviously he was too small to physically play properly but remembers that he was facinated by the different sounds you could get by playing different strings in different places. At the age of 8 he bought himself a book entitled "The Rudiments and Theory of Music" and began playing incessantly. Eight hours a day seven days a week apart from the yearly, week long camping holiday studying the Guitar and perfecting Techniques which have become part of his trademark today.Jon got his first Electric Guitar at the age of 11 and then began to take off, with Eric Clapton and Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top as his Idols. By the age of 12 he was out playing with various local Country and Blues Outfits.Things really took off at the age of 13 when he got his very first American Fender Stratocaster, "When you have a Guitar which never lets you down it gets a whole lot easier, and harder!" and the determination to play the best he could was undiminishing. Meeting many players you hear different things and it makes you realize that you never stop learning, If you keep practicing, you keep getting better. In High School he was in several bands, including a band with his teachers! and out of school was gigging as much as time and study would allow. After School he joined a couple of local Rock groups playing all over the country for a couple of years in places such as the Cavern, Liverpool and as far north as Edinburgh and Newcastle. In his early 20's Jon decided to take a break for a while and concentrate on travelling, he has been on various treks and various countries. He has Cycled from South Africa to Tanzania then by any way possible to Egypt. Cycled in India and travelled through western europe extensively amongst other places, prefering a backpack or a bicycle. He has only touched the surface he says so will no doubt be planning more trips in the future. The 20's seemed to fly by, with travelling, 2 wonderful relationships. One not so but whenever he could he would always play Guitar. He says it is his life, and soul. When he plays it he feels like someone else and would be completely and utterly lost without one. If he lost the ability to play he would have lost all purpose in life. Now in his early 30's and most of his itchy feet feelings behind him he has decided to bite the bullet and make his career playing the Guitar. He has put nearly 28 years of his life into it and when you hear him, Electric or Acoustic you will realize that. He is an awesome Blues, Rock, Swing, Bluegrass, Country Lead and Rythmn Guitarist and knows no boundries to improvisation, tone and musical sense. He is a Guitarist that has played with local heroes, Eddy Gartry, Dangerous Dave, Fuzz Townshend, Jaquie Savage, Andy Watson, Emma and the Professor, Cadeseus, Ian Tengwall to name but a very very few.Currently Jon is working with one that can only be seen as one of the finest Guitarists in the world, His name is "Gary Potter" Please google or look at www.garypottermusic.co.uk or www.myspace/garypottermusic, www.youtube.com/garypotter or look in my top friends. Gary has got to be seen to believed (and heard), he is the most amazing guitarist ever to have come out of Liverpool and if not the whole planet. There is potentially one other, Our mutual hero.... Django Rheinhardt.Jon is also a very respected teacher of the instrument and teaches as much as his time will allow. He plays Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar and 12 string in a plethora of styles and his true talent is improvisation. As he says you dont need to know a thousand songs. If you can get up on stage with someone you have never met, ask them what key and tempo and improvise fluently, You are getting there! Playing the right notes at the right time is so important. When you are making it all up as you go along you need to "Feel It" He uses on stage depending on gig, Buddy Guy Fender Signature Strat, Washburn N2 Nuno Bettencourt Signature, 1961 Maton Jazz cutaway acoustic (slide mainly), Takamine cutaway, Hodson Maccaferri, 1966 Acoustic Gibson 12 string, 1973 Fender Twin Reverb Amp or AER compact 60 and various pedals but not too many! He prefers very little outside effects. A marshall Bluesbraker II pedal, Fender Strat and a Fender Twin Reverb amplifier and you have it all but obviously a Wah Wah and Chorus have there moments in time.
