About Me
An award-winning singer, songwriter and composer, Suzanne Brindamour traces her musical roots and inspirations back to her family. A native of Maryland and the youngest of five children, Brindamour grew up surrounded by music. Her mother loved to sing and her father, a casual pianist, filled the house with music. But it was the guitar playing of her three older brothers that sparked Brindamour’s love of music.
At age 12, Brindamour received her first guitar as a Christmas gift. She trained in the classical style but was drawn to the more contemporary acoustic styles of Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Cat Stevens. Inspired by these singer/songwriters she developed her signature finger picking style and a love for creating her own music. Soon after learning the guitar, she taught herself to play the family piano.
At age 20, she moved to Arizona, to pursue her education and explore her artistic talents. Brindamour answered a Phoenix newspaper ad for "original music" which led to her sharing a personal tape of music which she had both composed and performed. She was then asked to join "Kid Trousers & Wisdom Bricks." Here she found her voice singing back-up and some lead for the group. Brindamour spent the next two years honing her skills as a songwriter and vocalist. She returned home to Maryland after learning that her mother was suffering from terminal cancer -- a harrowing experience that inspired Brindamour’s "Waiting in the Wings" from her first CD.
Brindamour composed her first piece of music for television during her stint as an intern for the CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C. Utilizing her vocal and keyboard skills, she wrote and performed a song for a farewell tribute to the host of "Capital Edition." Additionally, she has composed scores for clients including National Geographic Television, "National Geographic Explorer," FOX’s "America’s Most Wanted," and Mercedes Benz. Brindamour also worked as Assistant Production Director at WFRE/WFMD Radio in Frederick, Maryland, where she wrote, produced and voiced commercials for air. Throughout her years of work in radio and television music production, her efforts have earned a first place ADDY, POLLIE, Axiom, Telly, and a Silver Screen Award in the U.S. Film Festival.
Brindamour continued to write music and sing, and made the decision to become a solo artist in 1998. Inspired by the musical styles of Shawn Colvin and Sarah McLachlan, she returned to her acoustic roots, composing a mix of pop and folk music that was both provocative and edgy. Backed by friends and family her first self-titled CD was released in October of 1999. Since its debut, "Suzanne Brindamour" has invited an incredible response from critics (The Washington Post, On Tap, The Gazette) as well as the listening public. An excerpt from one track, “Dear Sevda,†was used in the soundtrack for the television series “Popstars†which aired on the WB (now CW) and MTV.
In 2005 a 2nd CD "You Are Here" was released on Dapple Records. Brindamour teamed up with Jonasay guitarist Mark Williams who produced the CD because he "was drawn to the depth of her material and her voice" and wished to be a part of "such a well written honest CD." Inspiration came from personal experiences; the 7th track, “Here†drew on Brindamour’s work with hospitalized children using music as therapy. Track 6, “Try†is featured in the independent film “Past Perfect.†This latest effort has received critical acclaim as well as airplay on broadcast and webcast radio.
Brindamour has performed at prestigious venues in the Washington, DC area including the National Theatre, State Theatre, and Iota Club and Cafe and continues to tour on the east coast.
