About Me

Dirty Hippy. Member of the Easy Action Sound System (www.charityshopdj.com) in my alter ego of DJ Ricky Tabla, sometime resident at Arabian Nights, Cambridge. Member of Movic (www.myspace.com/themovicsound) and The Garibaldies (www.myspace.com/garibaldies). This page is for me own stuff though.Classically trained muso, particularly in the Renaissance & Baroque era, but with distorted electric guitar for breakfast from an early age and decks for dinner. Winner of National Youth Music Theatre Award as part of school group way, way back in the day, also grabbed a Grade 8 or three and went on to study at Trinity College of Music (Bachelor of Dropout achieved in second year). High point at Trinity was playing football for them against a Royal Academy of Music team that featured a younger - and less fat - Aled Jones as captain (of course). All the gear and NO idea... He was stretchered off in the second half :) I've written &/or performed for the likes of BBC Radio 2,3 & 4, Central Television, BBC1 Television, and had writing commissions from Kingfisher Productions, The National Poetry Archive and some of the above. Performed at diverse venues such as The Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican, The Royal Albert Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall and many festivals – including Glastonbury and The Big Chill - theatres, arts centres, cathedrals, churches and clubs & pubs, Oxfam shops and various dirty toilets masquerading as venues throughout the country.Occasional promoter/stage manager/festival organisation.I've worked with many LEA Schools and Youth Services running workshops, performing and as accompanist (Yr6 to VIth Form) as well as with Looked After Children in residential care (naughty buggers, like), encouraging & nurturing talent and self-confidence. And breaking/nicking my stuff.Regular musical partner of award-winning poet, author and playwright Andrew Fusek Peters (www.tallpoet.com).Private music tuition with children, young people and adults.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Sounds Like: A right mess a the moment, until I can figure out the Maddening Infuriating Devils Interface, or MIDI for short. But my general approach is that less is most definitely more (especially when I'm singing, heh). One note solos & sparse arrangements a speciality.

New Tune - The Main Thing

Anyone see that Roxy Music documentary on BBC3 last week? I was utterly inspired by Eno's boots, Ferry's flickover and Manzanera's beard. One quick, drunken fumble in my studio later, here's a cover o...
