About Me

Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor - Image Hosting

Daithi Rua grew up in the midlands of Ireland (County Offaly) on the banks of Ireland's longest river the Shannon. Born into a family of Musicians and singers it wasn't long till he was hooked on music. He started out playing the local bars and clubs of Ireland as a teenager. Sometimes he could even be seen busking or turning up on stage at festivals, solo or with his band. Daithi has opened up for many big named acts like the Waterboys, The Hothouse Flowers and Kieran Goss. He moved to Belgium in the year 2000 (the Heart of Europe) where he very quickly became involved in the vibrant folk/songwriter scene there touring all over Mainland Europe and Scandinavia. He now lives in Gent and continues to play festivals/clubs and all types of gigs in all types of countries either as a songwriter/singer (solo) or with virtuoso fiddle player Aidan Burke. Daithi's songs have made it on to some important albums over the years. Artists include The Furey's and Davey Arthur, COMAS, Helen Flaherty and Randall Williams. Daithi is writing all the time and hopes to have a full recording of his own material soon!!v ..

Sounds Like: A Watered down version of him..........:-)"I first met Daithi Rua when we did a gig together on the banks of the river Shannon in his native Co. Offaly in the early nineties. Although a contemporary folk musician and writer, I was struck with his integrity and sensitivity of his native roots, unlike so many post-modern Irish writers. His recorded work is filled with warmth, commitment and originality and with the didactic quality so central to genuine art." - Jimmy Crowley. (Photographer:Lieve Boussauw)
