About Me

Peter borrowed an acoustic guitar when he was sixteen… That’s how it all started. One year later he bought his first electric guitar, an imitation Fender Strat, and a secondhand amp. He started rocking with several bands, garage-rock with “Max and the Axe”, punk-rock with “Funeral Dress”. When he gets to know Dire Straits and the subtile guitar-work of Mark Knopfler he learns that a guitar can be treated gently as well. He starts to write songs, more to ventilate overwhelming emotions then to become a singer-songwriter. On his first trip to Scotland, he met an Irish band playing in a small pub in Ullapool. His first encounter with Irish folk made him hooked up to the drive of that pure music. With Fagoempel he learns how to play this music of the Celts and even gets to know the pleasure of DADGAD-tuning. But nothing’s static so he want’s to move on to find room for his songs and his music. Sometimes he walks with Moragh, sometimes he walks alone... Not knowing what's behind the next turn. .........."I started on my own in september 2006, I had been playing in a folkband for 14 years and I was not really aware of singer-songwriting at that time. I was just doing my own thing, wrote some songs and found a sound that I liked. I feel very lucky that I've come across all the people who helped me to become who I am right now. I'm still learning every day and I want to thank them all. They are my real hero's!"...

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: I'm the proud owner of a Schertler Unico. It's the best acoustic amp you can find, for more info go to: http://www.schertler.com/
Influences: In my younger days I used to listen to... W.A.Mozart (no kidding, still like him), John Denver, Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Joe Strummer (The Clash), The Chieftains, Dubliners,….Guess I forgot a few... There are lot of folkbands I got to know the last few years: Comas, Grada, The Battlefieldband, The Furey's and Davey Arthur, Lunasa, Flook, Milladoiro, Carlos Nunez, Suzanna Seivane,.... There are so many musicians I met in my life who made it special for me and must have had influence one way or the other. And special thanks to Daithi Rua, he made me learn about some great singer-songwriters. I'll just name a few: of course Daithi Rua himself (he inspired me to do what I do now, a great friend), Albert Niland (just for who he is and what he does, he's amazing), Luka Bloom (I know his music only for about a year now, shame on me, but he convinced me to perform on my own, I'd love to meet him one day.)
Sounds Like: Reactions from the crowd: Sounds like: "a mix of Bob Dylan and The Waterboys...", "Tom Waits", (I never got that drunk on a gig); "a Richard thompson-vibe"; "a mix of Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton"...Please check out the newest Belgian Celtic Folkband: "Moragh", too, at: http://www.myspace.com/moraghmusic
