CUARTETO PALERMO
Cuarteto Palermo started in 2003 on the initiative of Maurizio Maiorana, professional actor and musician. The quartet is formed by singer Maurizio Maiorana, Tobia Vaccaro (guitar and violin), Mimmo La Mantia (guitar), who both in the past were guitarists with Rosa Balistreri and at the moment are very active musicians in the Sicilian music scene, and by the Dutch double bass player Marko Bonarius, who since a few years divides his life and activities between The Netherlands and Sicily.
Besides many concerts, the quartet plays within the performance TANGUERA, with the choreographies of Maura Laudicina, the participation of the aSSud school pupils and the collaboration of the best tango-dancers from Catania and Messina. Cuarteto Palermo has performed during the milongas at Candelai, Agricantus, Palazzo Pantelleria in Palermo; they participated at the third and fourth editions of the SICILIA TANGO FESTIVAL and at the final milongas with PABLO VERON (April 2004), SANDRA MESSINA (September 2003) and PABLO VILLARAZA and DANA FRIGOLI (December 2005). In February 2006 they toured in Switzerland, in some of its most important concert halls (e.g. Moods, Mühle Hünzigen). The year 2006 further has seen performances at Kals'art (Chiesa dello Spasimo, Palermo), Tonnara Florio, Verbatango (with composer Mario Modestini), Paesaggi di Suoni (Tuscania), Troina Festival (dedicated to sicilian born singer Ignacio Corsini). In 2006 their first and succesfull Cd VOLVER (La Locomotiva LOC 0705-7) has been issued.
In 2007 Cuarteto Palermo plaied at the SICILIA TANGO FESTIVAL (october 31st - november 5th) and a tour in switzerland (january 2008).
