I was born 1961 in a small town in Holland called Roosendaal, and started playing the piano when I was 7 years old. I'm a composer, pianist and a painter and have been living in Nijmegen, Holland for the past 25 years. For me improvising and painting is pratically the same. There is a direct line from what's within your heart and mind to the outside world of image, sound and space. I never start with a plan, I feel there already are enough "restrictions" as it is: the instrument, the space in which it is, sounds outside, or, when you paint: the size of your canvas or paper, the light, etcetera. That is what you'll have to work with. I like the nothingness when I start playing or painting. It makes me feel comfortable.
