    Influences:

  • Spending my youth in Thailand and Uganda probably did do something - at least then learning Thai and Suwaheli as well some pidgin' English. My glorious past as cook, dishwasher, seller of potatoes and eggs, tanner, music critic, grafic designer and dj (the saint alban) left marks. My lovely wife and two beautifull children still have an enormous impact on my personality ;-)

  • Sounds Like: Press on Mark Alban Lotz
Mark Lotz is more than just a big voice in the European jazz scene. He is at the forefront of jazz, classical and World Music and is obviously enjoying every minute of it! (Latinjazz Net, USA) go to: http://www.jazz.com/features-and-interviews/2008/1/26/in-con versation-with-mark-lotz A fresh, global and oddly beautyful sound! (Random Chance Records, US) Flutist Mark Alban Lotz has produced one of the more oddly gorgeous recordings I've listened to this year. (Jazz Series Review, USA) Miles away from convivial Cuban dance music but hitting the essence of Origin. (Rootstown Music, B Taking the past as a starting point Lotz opens a view into the jazz of the future. (Nieuwsblad v/h Noorden, NL) ... can't say enough good about this one either. Lotz, as ever, wields an estimable selection of flutes and melodic hooks (first time out of the mailing envelope, I played the opening, highly Stravinsky-esque 'Cowboy Game' eleven times in a row before I went on to the next track). (Jazz Now, US) Blues for Yemayá should be looked at as the most successful multicultural project of the nineties. (Music and Show, NL) The CDs by Mark Alban Lotz are the best examples I've heard of successfully blending bata drums with non-Latin music. I highly recommend them. (batadrums.com, US) A big voice in the European Jazz scene. (La Traversiere, FR) Masculine, exciting, superb. (Pan Magazine, UK) Errant Jazzman. (Global Rhythm Magazine, US) ... they're going to make some real noise. (CMJ New Music Report, US)
