THE BEAUTIFUL LOSERS are a group headed by Laure Vasseur and Laurent Bihet. After the break-up of the original band in 2003, Laure and Laurent found themselves alone, together, so they decided to continue with the band. They recuperated all the instruments they had collected since their childhood and created their own home studio. They began to compose, play and record every instrument themselves. Their diverse background in classical and electric music along with their passion and drive, allowed them to create and produce their desired sound. They discovered, little by little, the pleasures and joys of recording, from the first phase of conception to the proud moment when the finished result surpasses all expectations. During recording, Laure and Laurent welcomed fellow friends and musicians to the studio to contribute to their music. Their sound, based on a rigid rhythmic structure, allows for the most freedom possible for improvisation and personal interpretation. Laurent: “We discovered a new language while listening to Antibalas and Tony Allen. We already had an open ear to Miles Davis electric, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather report, Medeski, and other New-York music. We aren’t from New York and since France doesn’t Have the same culture and rhythm, we ended up making our own sound.†The result? They succeeded in recording their first album “between two landscapes†in 6 months. The frustration? They no longer play live shows. In fact, The Beautiful Losers are currently working on a second album, this time witch a more structured sound. They hope to find other musicians to complete their repertoire so they can get back to what they truly love: playing live shows. They hope to introduce a visual dimension to their music by incorporating other artistic forms into their music.
THE BEAUTIFUL LOSERS est un groupe fondé par deux musiciens, Laure Vasseur et Laurent Bihet. A la dissolution de leur groupe en 2003, ils se retrouvent seuls mais décident de continuer ensemble. Ils récupèrent tous les instruments qu'ils utilisent depuis leur enfance et aménagent un home studio. Ils commencent à se chercher, à jouer, composer et enregistrer toutes les parties instrumentales. Leur éclectisme musical les aide à se faire une idée du son qu'ils veulent et leurs différentes expériences classiques et électriques leur permet de le matérialiser. Bien sûr, ils découvrent peu à peu les joies et les galères de l'enregistrement, et toutes les phases de la conception d'un produit mais aussi la fierté d'obtenir un résultat répondant à leurs attentes. Leurs amis musiciens viennent aussi enregistrer des parties sur certaines chansons. Leur musique est basée sur une structure rythmique rigide offrant une plus grande liberté d'improvisation et d'interprétation. Laurent:"nous avons découvert un nouveau langage en écoutant Antibalas et Tony Allen et nous avions déjà une oreille ouverte sur les Miles Davis électrique, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Medeski et la musique new-yorkaise. Nous ne sommes pas des new- yorkais et n'avons pas cette même culture du rythme en France, alors, nous fabriquons notre petite sauce". Une fierté? Avoir réussi à faire un premier autoproduit "Between Two Landscapes" enregistré en 6 mois. Une frustration? ne plus jouer sur scène. Actuellement, The Beautiful Losers continuent de composer et préparent un second autoproduit. Le son est plus maîtrisé, et Laure et Laurent espèrent trouver des musiciens pour fonder le groupe live, et jouer leur répertoire complet. Ils veulent aussi apporter une dimension visuelle et regrouper plusieurs formes artistiques autour de leur musique.
