About Me

Keir Neuringer @ Audio Art Festival 2007 on Vimeo .

I perform live using saxophone, cassette tapes, and guitar effects pedals (and occassionally drums or voice), and compose at home with manuscript paper and a computer. I also write texts and make videos and installations critical of industrial civilization's death grip on the rest of the planet. My musical output ranges from pulse-based electronic music to free jazz, from notated compositions for contemporary classical ensembles to experimental electroacoustic improvisation.
I was born in Brooklyn in 1976 and grew up in the suburbs. I relocated to Europe in 1999 and have lived in Poland and The Netherlands since. I did time in academia in Denton Texas, Ithaca New York, London, Krakow and The Hague. I was once a Fulbright Scholar, it was nice.
I began playing the saxophone in grade school, and my approach to the instrument has as much to do with tradtional music from places that still have such a thing as it does with my years playing in funk and dixieland bands. Electronic and industrial sound, avant-gardisms, and the 20th century classical canon are also important influences. I perform solo and in collaboration with a wonderful and undefined network of inspiring people. Since December 2004 I have also curated a creative music concert series at tag in The Hague.
There's other stuff about and by me here and here .
