Finding the Poetic High is part of this revolutionary culture to transform education. Specifically, Poetic High are hands-on youth AND teacher development workshops that focus on supporting young writers, progressive urban educators, schools, and after school programmers in any of the following areas:
1. Visioning & Re-Visioning school program & pedagogical beliefs, comprehensive school reform structures, culture, and practices
2. How to build a spoken word culture & community of socially just poets who contribute to the evolution of knowledge through discourse & culture production
3. How to build CLASSROOM & SCHOOL culture, structures, & practices that are youth empowered, sociologically aware, counter-hegemonic, culture producing, and critical inquiry-based
4. How to transform the physical classroom space into the "Living Community" to build an academic, social, emotional, and professional culture of youth.
5. How to strengthen the teaching practices of Humanities-based literacy classes to not only build skills, but also language, authentic identies, social consciousness, and warriors of the 21st century who use multiple mediums of effective communication.
6. How to develop the love and skills of the "language of our lives" (June Jordan)
Poetic High utilizes progressive methods of active pedagogy & experiential learning that develop language, literacy, discourse, and authentic product creation.
G Reyes tries to break barriers as a California Credentialed teacher, teacher mentor, instructional leader in school reform, poet, writer, and artist who teaches in urban public schools, after school programs, school professional development institutes, universities, the Oakland Leaf Foundation , and with the Bay Area Writing Project. He is also the Director for the YOUTH ROOTS multi-medium revolutionary culture crew.
G is available for performances, youth workshops, teacher development workshops, keynote presentations/speeches, teacher coaching, school reform coaching, and just plain kickin it with coffee, smoothies, beatmaking, or watching the scrapers go by. He aspires to serve educators and youth towards transforming the self, schools, communities, language, and the profession of education.
