OAKLAND PEACE CAMP
Oakland Peace Camp (OPC) has established itself as a community resource within the East Oakland and Fruitvale neighborhoods. At OPC 2007, programming pushed the limits. Despite a loss of funding, OPC still managed to provide incredible experiences to our youth. With 2 weeks of intensive arts and social justice curriculum, all youth were definitely immersed in critical, creative, and empowering learning. But OPC was never about learning that existed solely within the confines of a classroom. Advisories worked toward a service learning project that addressed local issues from the pervasiveness of liquor stores to critiquing the lack of green spaces and accessibility of natural foods in our neighborhoods. And what’s an OPC without cultivating strong youth leaders? The 2007 OPC had a record 8 youth interns who took leadership to the sky as either Peer Advisors and Media/Event Producers or as Teaching Assistants.THIS YEARS STAFF INCLUDES:SENAY "REFA 1" DENNIS,
