About Me

Awesome news-my poetry collection, BEING FULL OF LIGHT, INSUBSTANTIAL, won a HWA Bram Stoker award! Making me a two-time Bram Stoker winner (very kool).
It was a tie with the book Vectors: A Week in the Death of a Planet by Charlee Jacob and Marge Simon. This was a happyness because I love their work!

Let's Talk Honestly
A video of my reading three poems from my latest collection is on Fearzone
What's being said about my new collection:
“There is something otherworldly and magical about Linda Addison's poetry, as though she is a primordial force of nature who can see to the very bottom of the oceans and to the very end of the universe. From "Falling Away": Falling away from Earth/releasing time and pain/an exhalation of demons/wait to chew at bones left behind/ … begins one of the finest contemplations of the end of corporeal existence I've ever encountered.
BEING FULL OF LIGHT, INSUBSTANTIAL is a major poetry collection by a major American poet whose talent seems to grow exponentially with each collection she's published. Includes breathtaking photo-art by Brian James Addison.” —J.L. Comeau, award winning short story writer; read more at http://www.countgore.com/Tomb.htm
"With an unusual blend of lyricism and concentrated detail, Linda Addison offers up her distinctive poetic skills that are unlike any you've encountered elsewhere. BEING FULL OF LIGHT, INSUBSTANTIAL is poetic achievement as solid and well-founded as a palace cornerstone. And that palace rings with the thrum and cadence of voice, weaving tales and songs full of fantasy and myth that will sweep you down from the eaves and up to the towers."--Tom Piccirilli, author of THE MIDNIGHT ROAD
My first two collections are still available, Animated Objects (fiction and poetry) & Consumed, Reduced to Beautiful Grey Ashes (poetry, received the HWA Bram Stoker award-I'm the first African-American to receive the Bram Stoker).
My most recent publications are: poetry in the hardcover release edited by Gerard Houarner, DEAD CAT TRAVELING CIRCUS OF WONDERS AND MIRACLE SHOW, featuring fiction by Tim Lebbon, Gary Braunbeck, Brian Hodge, Michelle Scalise, Jeffrey Thomas, Wrath James White, and Jeffrey Thomas, among others.
I am also the only author with fiction in three landmark anthologies that celebrate African-Americans speculative writers: the award-winning anthology Dark Matter: A Century of Speculative Fiction (Warner Aspect), Dark Dreams (Kensington), and Dark Thirst (Pocket Book).
“Linda Addison pours heart and soul upon the page ...” —Asimov’s Science Fiction magazine
“Linda brings a tight focus to small, intimate details which in turn illuminate and echo larger concerns.” —The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction

PUBLICATIONS IN 2007:

My third collection, “Being Full of Light, Insubstantial”, (Space & Time); on the Final Ballot for the HWA Bram Stoker!

PUBLICATIONS IN 2006:

CIRCLES IN THE HAIR: an anthology of fiction and poetry by the writers group I’ve been a founding member since 1990. They’re my best friends and have literally kicked my butt for years; it’s their fault I’m a better writer. I have two poems and a story in the book, which also has cover art by Alan Clark, an introduction by Nancy Kress and an after word by Terry Bisson. **www.shocklines.com***

VOICES FROM THE OTHER SIDE: DARK DREAMS II edited by Brandon Massey (Kensington 2006): I have a continuation of my story from Dark Dreams I in this second volume of horror and suspense by Black Writers. My story, ‘Milez to Go’, does stand alone but don’t let that stop you from getting Dark Dreams I and II. **www.shocklines.com***

DEAD CAT’S TRAVELING CIRCUS OF WONDERS AND MIRACLE MEDICINE SHOW edited by Gerard Houarner and GAK (Bedlam Press 2006): an incredibly beautiful anthology with breathtaking art and work by other authors inspired by Gerard Houarner and GAK’s original Dead Cat Bounce chapbook. **www.shocklines.com***

DARK THIRST (Pocket Books, June 2006): has been released in paperback. If you missed picking up this collection of stories of the undead by African-American writers now is your chance to get it with my story, ‘Whispers During Still Moments’.

HEAR THEM ROAR edited by C.J. Henderson & Patrick Thomas (Spyre Books, 2006): fiction and poetry about bold and triumphant women, contains five poems of mine.

THE 2006 RHYSLING ANTHOLOGY (Science Fiction Poetry Association, 2006): it is my great delight to be a nominee for the 2006 Rhysling with my poem, ‘Storm of Souls’, originally published in Fantastic Stories of the Imagination 16.
