"With minimal output, Projekt 67 creates a beautiful silent and fragile atmosphere that made my neckhairs stand up". This is how our first untitled album (released nov 2004) was received. This music is maybe best described as dreamy, cinematic. Simon plays music as if he's painting, he likes to start with just one tone, and then, slowly, the music opens up to the listener, like a landscape unfolding.
When we perform live, it's an incredibly intimate little happening. Our recorded music has been used by filmmakers and the maker of a documentary on trains. In the studio, Projekt 67 works together with other musicians, among whom are singer Jantje Jonkman and singer/flute-player Louise Berendsen. Since the beginning of 2007, Louise and Malou Kars play and sing with us on stage.
about Simon van Weelden ('67) and Erna Berendsen ('75).
Simon was born in Zaltbommel (the Netherlands). He got his first real guitar when he was twelve, taught himself how to play, and round about that time he started buying a new musical toy every month. He successively finished an education for electrician, the advertising-school and finally the academy of arts "Minerva" in Groningen in 1995. Simon works as a graphic designer and webdesigner. Among other things, www.projekt67.com is of his making.
Erna was born in Wilhelminaoord (the Netherlands). She comes from a musical nest, has 5 gifted brothers and sisters and grew up with music. She was a choral singer for some time, she particularly enjoyed singing modern music, like the choral music of Ton de Leeuw and Frank Martin. In de multi-vocal parts that she writes for the music of Projekt 67 you can find the influence of this music. She studied psychology in Groningen, and gratuated in 1999. In Projekt 67, she found her own place, where she can put her ideas to use, in both lyrics and music.
