My story
Imagine an old wooden hen house, charmingly rustic, nestled under some maple trees with the sounds of running water and a gentle cooling breeze. Then imagine a father, a wife and a baby, and the idea of building a home right there based on the remains of the hen house.

I was born in the country - eastern Norway. While my family on my mothers side were all laestadians (a fundamental religious sect primarily based in the northern part of Norway), my father derives from several generations of corn farmers. I spent my childhood on my grandparent's farm and, yes, in a converted hen house. This little cottage housed my family of five. Today I find this quite amusing. There was a big barn built on a tall wall made of granite, but no animals. Or, there might have been a cow there once - and then rabbits...a lot of rabbits!

I try to express the rhythmic presence of duality in life: good vs. evil; the beautiful vs. the ugly; the sacred vs. the profane; or, put another way, body vs. spirit. I try to capture both a sense of finality and endlessness.

´Dead birds do tell tales´

When I was 6, I had a baby bird named Fellini, a little budgie bird. I got him for my birthday. He was so cute, all white. He ate from my hand. One day I got the idea to teach my pippin how to fly. I threw him up in the air like I had seen others do - on TV. It resulted in him becoming crippled and then dying. I still haven't forgiven myself. I burried him in our garden.

Memory and Identity

I use my own story to reflect on a larger set of issues in a metaphorical language. I really enjoy the evolving process of work which can start from a vague idea which then develops into a universe all its own. Nothing can be more frustrating and giving at the same time as that. What excites me the most is when an emotional trigger connects unexpectedly with a visual memory.
