***LUDDITE***
This site is actually being run for Cap by a web-savvy friend.

Mr Sensible has this to say..."Luddite? Well, I have to admit you have got a bit of a point there.... all this new fangled technology and all that - well, to be honest I have got better things to do than tap tap tap away all day on a computer keyboard answering stacks of messages. Consequently - I DON'T ACTUALLY EDIT THIS SITE MYSELF so please don't be offended if there's no reply... I really do appreciate you dropping by - and maybe the lovely Tintin (see my friends) who is the techie genius who keeps the site together and uploads my blurb will say hi on my behalf as she's got a much better grasp of this MySpace thing and is also a lot prettier that your old punk guitarist chum.
This IS definitely my site though!"
*** THE BLAH! PARTY ***
Click on the pic above and check out my sensational new foray into politics... yes, I am putting my money where my mouth is at long last and it's gonna really shake things up!
*** DOODLE ***
Oh, feel free to knock up a quick work of art while you're here playmates. Blimey, old Picasso would have loved THIS now wouldn't he!

Join me in my mission to give British politics the kick up the backside it so richly deserves!! Click below or send a text - it's that easy, and before long we'll have so many members they'll HAVE to take notice of us. Because - THE MORE OF US THERE ARE - THE BIGGER THE BLAH!

AND WE NOW HAVE A BLAH! FORUM!!
You are all VERY WELCOME to pop over and say your piece on any topic that's getting you hot and bothered currently. Come on - you know you want to.....

Influences: As a schoolkid in the 60's I purchased every single by bands like the Small Faces, Kinks and the Who... and then when rock and psychedelia came along I fell in love with Soft Machine, The Groundhogs and Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd (not to be mistaken for the other lot...) amongst others like the Pretty Things, Brian Auger, The Stooges, Marc Bolan, The Cowsills, Pink Fairies, Traffic, Santana, King Crimson, etc... all wonderful stuff that I play over and over to this day.
There's not so many current bands that can match that lot for inventiveness but Stereolab, Zero Zero, Sing Sing and Zoot Woman sound like the real thing - well, to my ear anyway.
Working with wonderful bands like Zombina and the Skeletones, Spookey, The Priscillas and Polysics keeps us on our toes as well... check them out if they're gigging down your way.
And now, by popular request I'm gonna post my all time top ten fav albums.....
1) Groundhogs - 'Thank Christ For The Bomb'
2) Brian Auger - 'Befour'
3) Syd's Pink Floyd - 'Piper at the Gates Of Dawn'
4) Pink Fairies - 'Never Never Land'
5) Soft Machine - 'Vol 1+2'
6) Egg - 'The Polite Force'
7) Electric Prunes - 'Lost Dreams'
8) Bee Gees - 'First'
9) Stray - 'Stray'
10) Jimi Hendrix - 'Smash Hits'
You could do a lot worse than giving some of these superb records a spin playmates, but don't expect to go trawling through them looking for nicked riffs and the like - I never do THAT kind of thing.... ahem!

Sounds Like: The Captain material could possibly be described as highly melodic, occasionally anthemic pop...tinged with melancholy.
But, for those of you who've not had the pleasure (fnar fnar!) let me tell you a bit about myself and my wonderful and occasionally bizarre music carreer..............
Well, after a few years punking it up with Johnny Moped and the Damned somehow I found myself on Top Of The Pops singing a showtune from South Pacific... 'Happy Talk' it was called (how could you ever forget!) and nothing was ever the same again.
As a former toilet cleaner for Croydon Council I wasn't going to tell the record label to stick all that dosh up their bums now, was I... so that's how I became the most unlikely popstar in Britain.
After 2 albums of (even if I say so myself) classic synth-pop on A+M Records - 'Women an Captain's First' and 'The Power Of Love' I left to record more indie sounding guitar based records like 'Revolution Now' and my cosmic rock opera 'The Universe of Geoffrey Brown' which I'm rather proud of.
These days I still perform with that lovable bunch of rogues The Damned - who are playing better than ever currently.... and also with Dead Men Walking... a punk 'supergroup' if you like, featuring Kirk Brandon, Mike Peters and Slim Jim Phantom - a real nice bunch of chaps each one bringing their own individual take on punk to the band... so that's gonna make for a very interesting album methinks!!

*** MUSIC PLAYER ***

Here's a few more songs I've been involved with in one way or other over the years.... and also some stuff I really like by other artists. Give 'em a spin playmates, there's some quality music here... including
01) Magic Michael / Millionaire - During the Machine Gun Ettiquette period myself, Algy and Rat were hired to back Magic on this single and a 'b' side. We were playing great at the time and did the material justice I believe. Although 'Friends Of Mine' - the other track, is better....
02) Sanity Clause was a Damned Xmas single inspired by a hilarious scene in a Marx Bros movie where, when arguing about a legal contract they all started shouting "there ain't no Sanity Clause". Wonderful stuff!
03) And then MY Xmas single for good measure. I think every artist should do their own take on the Xmas thing - and this one IS pretty cute. It's probably my favourite of all the Captain with Tony Mansfield as producer collaborations and I have to admit I love it so much I play it over and over to anyone who will listen!
04) We love the Prunes - great guys.... I'd have put their 'Great Banana Hoax' on here but I couldn't find it. But 'Too Much To Dream" is 3 minutes of sublime pop psych of the 1st order.
05) My own risque English version of Ca Plane Pour Moi recorded with my friends the Softies. A bloke called Elton Motello (or summat close) wrote the lyric - don't blame moi!
06) Everything And More - Paul Gray and myself produced this single for the excellent Dolly Mixture. A fabulous album crammed with all their singles, demos and radio sessions is out there somewhere if you can find it.

I have had a few complaints that Xmas Catalog has been unavailable to download from the music player on this page, which shouldn't be the case as the lovely Tintin has set things up so you can download the songs if you feel that way inclined. Anyway, just in case things ARE a bit iffy I have posted my poptastic Xmas ditty in the Captain Sensible section of the (click the link) www.officialdamned.com website, along with 2 fabulous cover versions and a karaoke backing track so you can singalong-a-Sensible. Enjoy!
