New Australian talent Matt Seaberg has sling-shot to notoriety and credibility with his debut album, GEMINI'S MANY SIDES. For an independent musician with little funding, and no industry knowledge or backing to receive national Australian airplay 2 weeks after his debut release is phenomenal
With radioplay on JJJ (Australian national broadcaster), ZZZ (Brisbane), FBi (Sydney), RRR (Melbourne), and PBS (Melbounre) ranking the album no.5 in their Top 10 New Releases, Matt's momentum is gathering. GEMINI'S MANY SIDES is now receiving airplay in the US, Canada and Europe.
After touring the Australia's East Coast last year and performing at such venues as the Basement, the Annandale, Beach Hotel, Great Northern and Plantation, Matt is itching to tour nationally, including regional areas.
Along with producers, UK legend Paul Gomersall (Blur, Kate Bush, George Michael) and Mark Ward (OZ rock icon) Matt chose 9 songs from a catalogue of over 200 songs he has penned at the ridiculous number of gigs he has performed in recent years.
Matt possesses a plethora of vocal styles and has of smorgasbord of influences. Some people can hear Chili Peppers and Zappa,
others hear Buckley or Led Zepplin,
or Neil Finn and The Beatles,
or Jamiroquai and Dave Matthews.
Yet, the album has a continuity and captivating sound that pervades all its tracks.
Geminis are renowned for changing colours like charmeleons. Similarly, GEMINI'S MANY SIDES shifts, morphs and fuses genres (from funk, rock, ballads, groove, blues and world music) as it follows a story from heartbreak, self-destruction and despair, to self-belief, healing and joy, to arrive at new love.
TRACK 2, GETTIN’ IT ON, AND TRACK 9, ‘TIL LONDON ARE THE SINGLES TO LISTEN OUT FOR.
Here are just some of the reviews the album has attracted. SO WHAT’S WITH THE RUBIK’S CUBE?
The cube represents the mind puzzle we are challenged with everyday (i.e. reality vs. dreams, head vs. heart, morality vs. desire, self-preservation vs. philanthropy).
On stage, Matt is unpredictable. Sometimes a placid puppy content to perform tricks, other times he prowls like a caged tiger. I’ve seen him croon a sweet song revealing great sensitivity and fragility. An hushed audience then responds in transfixed awe. Suddenly Matt’s rocking out and screaming like a banshee.
He’s so at home on stage that nothing throws him. I’ve witnessed him cut hecklers in half with comebacks that could stump professional comedians (I’ve seen him do that too!).
Matt wields his poetry and humour like a doctor uses surgical equipment. He can heal pain or at least anaesthetise it. He can dissect you or himself cleanly, or savagely cut to the quick. Sometimes he’ll just tickle your funny bone.
He runs a gamut of emotions with his rollercoaster performances. Every emotional response, every corner, dip and bend on the rollercoaster ride, is a turn of the puzzle. Solving the cube is like completing a major transition in your life.
This is the WRONG music video for the WRONG song "Gettin' It On". Yes! IT IS A PORN PARODY!!! Please DO NOT take it seriously. Sit back, relax and enjoy with tongue firmly in cheek...ewww...not that cheek!
WHAT NOW FOR MATT SEABERG?
You can’t stop him! Matt’s developing relationships with festival organisers so he can bring his music to larger audiences on the festival circuit in Australia and internationally.
I witnessed Matt at Bluesfest 2006 in Byron Bay, Australia. UNBELIEVABLE! Security wouldn’t dare stop him. The press wouldn’t leave him alone. He owned the VIP lounge.
Maybe it was because he was Dave Gray’s drinking buddy or was asked to join the Marley band for a relaxing smoke. Could it have been that he managed to talk a the media entourage including Andrew Denton, George Negus, press and radio personalities without getting interrupted? Or was it that he was dancing in a clapping-circle at the afterparty which included Michael Franti and Moses O’Jah? Nah, it was the fact he did it all wearing a tuxedo with snorkel, mask and flippers!
Then there was the safari suit and pith helmet at Splendour 2006 at Byron Bay, Australia. DON'T ASK!
I’m convinced, Matt Seaberg is a fledgling star and, love him or hate him, there’s little you and I can do to stop him.
Here's an article from Australian Penthouse (May 2007), rating Matt No.2 in their Top 10 people to watch in 2007. Mum's sooo proud!
