PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ... A distraught Sydney family has made a heart felt plea for any information about the disappearance of their "happy-go-lucky" son, whomay have been the victim of a gay hate crime. Matthew Leveson, 20, was last seen in Cronulla on September 23, and was reported missing two days later after he failed to turn up at work at a Hurstville call centre and could not be contacted. His car, a Toyota Seca, was found on September 27 by police at Waratah Oval, Sutherland, a short distance from his home. Police have offered a $1000 reward in connection with Mr Leveson's disappearance. "It's baffling ... it's a complete mystery," his father Mark Leveson said. "He's a happy-go-lucky guy who liked going out to party and had a good circle of friends." His mother, Faye Leveson, was distraught as she appealed for information from the public. "I want my son back," she said. "He's a beautiful boy, he wouldn't harm a fly, he's got lovely friends. "I just want to know something. Please come to the police." Mr Leveson's friends have also appealed for assistance through the social networking sites Facebook and MySpace. Miranda police have not found any evidence to suggest Mr Leveson is still alive and have not ruled out the possibility his disappearance may be linked to a gay hate crime. He was with a large group of friends at a popular gay nightspot on the day he was last seen. Detective Inspector Adam Barwick said the investigation was being treated as homicide. "We certainly hold grave concerns for Matthew," he said. "We believe his disappearance is a result of foul play." The circumstances of Mr Leveson's disappearance were highly unusual, he said. "We don't believe he chose to go missing,'' he said. "It's possible people are talking amongst themselves as to what happened or what they believed has happened and that's why we would like them to come forward to police. "We have been following some lines of inquiry but it has now been almost six weeks since Matthew was last seen. "He was known to have a large circle of friends and I believe someone in the local community knows what has occurred." Mr Levenson's family last saw him at a 21st party in Wollongong on September 7, but his brother Peter saw him two weeks later at a popular gay nightspot. He was with a large group of friends before leaving the ARQ night club in Surry Hills in the early hours of Sunday, September 23. Police said Mr Leveson's partner last saw him later that day in Cronulla. Mr Leveson is described as being 170 to 180 centimetres tall, whiteor European in appearance with a thin build and short blonde hair. He was last seen wearing light brown cargo shorts, a black singlet and white leather shoes. Any information can be given to Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or Mirandapolice station on 9541 3899. A reward of up to $1000 is payable for information which leads to an arrest. Katherine
