Sam ran The Harbour Agency from FEBRUARY 1978 TO DECEMBER 2002 . Together with Premier Artists in Melbourne, the Premier Harbour Agencies represented the cream of Australian and New Zealand talent. Dedicated to promoting and booking the very best Australia and New Zealand have to offer, the Premier Harbour Agencies count amongst their artists:The Angels, Baby Animals, Crowded House, Icehouse, Neil Finn, Midnight Oil, The Hoodoo Gurus, Hunters & Collectors, Paul Kelly, Chris Bailey and The Saints, Rose Tattoo, Taxi Ride, Madison Avenue, Noiseworks, The Whitlams, Vanessa Amorosi, Cosmic Psychos, Bjorn Again, Human Nature, Split Enz, Tina Arena and Jimmy Barnes. The Frontier Touring Company was formed in 1979 by Michael Gudinski and Philip Jacobsen, in partnership with Frank Stivala, Sam Righi, Ray Evans, Glen Wheatley, Steve White and Michael Chugg. It was originally formed specifically to tour the new wave explosion of bands which were being ignored by established promoters. Since then, the company has toured artists in many musical genres throughout Australia and New Zealand. The Frontier Touring Company’s commitment to excellence has been recognized twice by its international peers, firstly in 1989 and then in 1997, when the prestigious “Performance Magazine†presented The Frontier Touring Company with the “No 1. International Touring Co. in the World†award. The Frontier Touring Company presented the biggest concerts in the history of Australian rock music with the Guns ‘n’ Roses tour at Eastern Creek, Sydney (71,000) and Calder Park, Melbourne (66,000) in 1993. These events have been hailed as the best run, organized and most trouble-free concerts ever. This was followed by the completion of a five year project, Madonna’s Girlie Show Tour which was the biggest tour that Australia has ever seen, attended by over 350,000 people. Then there was Kylie Minogue who, in 2001, set the nation ablaze with her “On A Night Like This†tour when she performed to a total in excess of 200,000 people. Globally recognised as the biggest and most successful entertainment promoter in the Southern Hemisphere, The Frontier Touring Company’s list of past achievements that remain unparalleled by any other Australian-based organization also includes: The Police, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Frank Sinatra, Lisa Minelli and Sammy Davis Jnr, Billy Joel and Elton John, The Eagles, Kiss and Plant & Page to name a few. The Frontier Touring Company also remains very active on the street with hot new acts such as Eminem, Coldplay, Nickelback, P.O.D, Shaggy and Moby. 2001 and 2002 the Austereo network invited The Frontier Touring Company to join their team in orchestrating the very successful pop festival namely Rumba which, over the 2 shows in Melbourne and Sydney, drew crowds of over 100,000 people. The international line up included Shaggy, Nelly Furtado, Craig David, Emma Bunton and Blue. Proving such a success, 2002 saw Rumba touring nationally and including New Zealand to major success. 2002 also saw the birth of its sister the M1 festival which catered for rock audiences nationally., with a stunning line up being, Garbage, Nickleback, The Goo Goo Dolls, Billy Idol, Lifehouse, Default, The Tea Party and Midnight Oil to name a few. The Frontier Touring Company completed the record breaking tours with artists like Kylie Minogue ‘On A Night Like This’ tour, Eminem, Bryan Adams, Tom Jones, Macey Gray, Moby, Ministry of Sound, the Rumba Festival and also Diana Krall and Art Garfunkel last July 2001. Sam's involvement with the Frontier Touring Company and The Premier Harbour Agencies ceased in December 2002. In 2003 Sam started a new company called Waterfront Entertainment Group with Sean Pickwell combining Tour Sponsorship with International Touring, as there was a gigantic hole in the market place for this, it proved to be very successful and Waterfront is now being used by all promoters in Australia. A few tours Waterfront promoted were SHAGGY,DAVID GATES, HUMAN LEAGUE,GO WEST, KIM WYLDE,PAUL YOUNG, BELINDA CARLISLE, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, SARAH BRIGHTMAN, KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND, GLORIA GAYNOR, THE VILLAGE PEOPLE, HOT CHOCOLATE, BONEY M. In 2004 Sam Righi started his own company called BigDeal Inc to focus on Australian acts for consultation and advice re recording, publishing, management, and maintains close involvement with the global entertainment industry. His experience in the actual costs and process of mounting large-scale public events is invaluable for cost-control and verification of expenses in large entertainment projects.
